Hi,

I happy that I see many contests in the CF calendar. Div $$$2$$$ rounds are good training for me, as I need some time for solving last two tasks in such contests (many times I am not able to solve all tasks and need editorial for some).

But, I really do not see reason why we have so small amount of $$$D1$$$ rounds? I am pretty sure the tasks from two $$$D2$$$ only rounds can be merged to get one combined round in many cases. Remaining easier tasks can be used for some $$$D3$$$ or $$$D4$$$ contests. So I am pretty sure that from current $$$4$$$ $$$D2$$$ rounds we can get at least $$$3$$$ rounds ($$$D1$$$ + $$$D2$$$ + $$$D3$$$).

Again this is not complain, as I am happy when someone gives me opportunity to solve new problems. Only I think that CF should start with merging tasks from different authors and allow submiting only one task (support paying by task not by contest). Many coders have $$$1-2$$$ cool ideas and they are not able to set whole round. Normally if someone has all tasks for $$$D1$$$ round there is no reason for merging. if someone has only $$$D2$$$ or $$$D3$$$ problemset and he won't separate tasks, it is ok too, but such setters should have lower priority for their rounds.

I believe all this stuffs will increase quality of CodeForces rounds and make better rating distribution.

I am interested in your opinion and maybe see reasons why this system is not supported by CF currently (maybe I am missing some obvious reason).

Hello Codeforces community!

I would like to announce Algoge Round 4. The contest will be held on Sunday 10th May at 15:00 UTC.

Algoge is site created by students of the Faculty of Computer Science during quarantine days in Serbia, based on the DMOJ platform. As there are no onsite contests these days, we decided to organize $$$5$$$ online rounds mainly for participants from Balkan. In the first three rounds, the tasks were only available on Serbian. Easier tasks were prepared by us and harder ones were taken from Moscow Workshop competitions. We had between 50 and 150 participants per round.

This is the first round fully created by us. For that purpose we decide to translate the tasks into English (Serbian version will be available too) and invite all of you to compete. Round will have $$$5$$$ or $$$6$$$ tasks and lasts $$$3$$$ hours. Tasks will be slightly harder than usual CF Div 2 round.

All task are prepared by ICPC team RAF Penguins: Pajaraja, milisav and allllekssssa.

Also I would like to thank DuX and all other students from my faculty for maintenance the platform.

As some labels on the site are in Serbian, everything that you need to know for doing contest is the following:

After registration on the site you need this link for the round (currently round is in upcoming part). In the moment when round starts you can join — there is no extra registration for the round. English statements will be in a visible place.

See you on Sunday!

UPD 1: Scoring for the round: $$$30 - 50 - 70 - 80 - 120 - 140$$$

English versions of statements will be at the top of each problem. As I didn't mention before, scoring system is same as AtCoder system with full feedback, only you are getting $$$10$$$ minutes for wrong submission.

UPD 1: Contest starts in $$$30$$$ minutes.

Hi all,

I couldn't do contest today, I spent my last four days to prepare this animation in Blender-university project. Man, I felt real pain and at the end I made nothing. Do you know someone with less talent for 3D modeling and animations? What are the four most useless days that you spent in your life?

Sorry for this unrelated blog, but I had to share this little piece of art with someone.

P.S. I forgot to mention the most important thing, The left flag was Codeforces flag, but it was disappear during rendering process.

Guys you made mistake again ! It becomes reality of Codeforces rounds. It is sad...

But this blog is not criticism and I won't blame your work!

I only want to say that I appreciate your effort to prepare rounds and I am always happy when I see new CF contest in calendar. So continue with work! I will be better and more careful in future contests after this mistake and hope same from your side !

At the end I suggest idea for finding one more coordinator — two heads think better than one !

Good luck and hope to see many new competitions !

Hi,

I was doing previous div 1 round and I got WA on the second task ( 33rd testcase). I wasn't able to understand why I got Wrong Answer, so I asked question on contest blog and had a few answers. They were very helpful, but still I do not understand whole sotry about my mistake and some different outputs of my program ( all programs looks same for me ).

  1. Contest submission 25046285

  2. First submission after contest 25087377 (only added getchar(), immediately after cin )

  3. Second submission after contest 25087412 (I changed place of getchar(), and wrote it one line above)

I understood why I needed to add one extra getline(), but I do not understand why getchar() is needed and why second and third submissions gives different verdicts.

I will be grateful for any help :)

Hello,

Today I see two interesting contests — HackerRank 101 Hack and CodeChef Cook-off. Usually I am trying to do both, but now I must decide for one (like all other contestants). We have a lot of conflicts in Coders Calendar, a lot of interesting contests are on the same day and many times like this one they are at the same time! I think that shouldn't happen, month has 30 days and we have at least two times less important contests of big sites.

For me, priority should have the following rounds :

Codeforces: Div 1 and Div 2 rounds — we around 6 rounds per month

HackerRank: 101 Hack, HourRank — 2 contests

TopCoder: SRM matches — 3 per month ( I think we don't have more this rounds, but I don't participe in it ).

Codechef: Cook-off, Lunchtime — 2 contests

HackerEarth: Easy contest — 1 per month

I didn't mention longer contests, because clashing isn't important for them. Everyone has long window for showing its skills.

In total we have 14 short important rounds per month, and we have around 9 free days (weekends : Saturday and Sunday). And we can not forget Fridays afternoon, many rounds can be held then. So why administrators of this sites don't make deal about distributions and dates for all this contest one month before ? I think that is possible and distribution can be very good for everyone. For example :

  • 3 weekend CF rounds

  • 2 HR weekend rounds

  • 2 Topcoder weekend round

  • 1 Codechef weekend round

  • 1 HackerEarth weekend round

Maybe another solution is organizing more contests at the weekends but starting time for some rounds can be good for Eastern countries ( like HourRank 3 or many TC contests).

I would like to hear your opinion about this idea, whether it is possible and acceptably for you?

Especially I glad to hear opinion of administrators of this sites, I talked with many of them before, but we didn't disscuss about this topic.

Regards.

Hi :)

After some time, I decided to write again one unimportant blog (I must practice for final English exam and I am worry that next 4 months aren't enough to change my 'potato' Englsih to something normal :D).

This year haven't finished yet, but I am pretty sure it will be one great year(my rating is smaller than before 11 months, but I am better programmer for 50%). I participed on some national contests, it was great experience for me, I met some great guys and I hope we will compete again next year :) Also I won two Codechef t-shirts, I haven't received it yet, but I beleive that I will wear them once. The main things this year were my mark from prologue (yey I get 4, after 2 this is amazing — anyway did you hear for that programming language ? — I must learn it o_O). The second great thing in my programming life was preparation of several contests. I must tell again that I organized :

-Codeforces 307 div 2 round

-HackerRank 101 Hack August

-HackerRank HourRank1

The first two rounds I prepared with my friend Nikola and the last I prepared alone, but great HR team helped me a lot. At least I hope you see the problems and you find something good for you... I don't plan to organize anything till the end of the year, but ceartainly you will find more problems with GukiZ in future :) Yes, my best teacher retired, but we meet each Saturday with new ideas and problems. I don't write more about this contests and personal life, but if you have any advice how I can improve my programming and setting skills, plese write it. I really like to hear that.

Don't worry I will finish soon, I suppose you can not read more my perfect English :)

In this blog I wanted to provide my help for preparation any contest in future. If you have tasks and you need revision, any suggestion or opinion, I am glad to help. Also we can prepare something together if you have idea or desire to work with me. You can be sure that I won't use your ideas and task somewhere without you and I won't share it with anyone :)

If you aren't interested for anything before you can share with me your favourite contest, maybe it will be interesting to me and many other CF users for practicing.

Now I am going to eat pizza :)

Bye!

Hello everybody !

School is finished. I am in the village. I don't have fast internet and I won't do next competition :(
But, I can write new topic with my 'potato' English with no word HELP ( so you can relax and read next part :D ) !

During this break I plan to learn a lot of things. First I start with learning C++ . Pascal is great language and help me a lot, but without C++ you can't do something very fast and good on the competitions (when I had to write some algorithm with graphs (even dfs) or I had to write SET , always i said — NO WAY , GO TO NEXT TASK ). Now I will change it and no more crying for bad results :)

I also plan to learn many graphs and string algorithms ( now a know 4-5 graphs algo. , KMP and hashing ( everything harder I do with hashing), also I know trie but it wasn't necessary to coding it on any contest ). Normally I plan to do every competition on the summer :D

What will you do during vacation ?

Second part of this blog is about preparing tasks for contest.

My friend and I prepared one contest, for me it was very interesting and good experience. I hope you like our problems... Sorry for hard div 2 round, next time I'll give my best to make better contest. I recived a lot of messages about our contest, many messages were grat, but also I recived some insluts. Please, don't write me it again :) Everything I do because I love programming and this community, maybe I deserved insults , but you don't talk about my friends, proffesor and country on that way !

The last few days I invented many new problems ( I believe I have enough problems for 2 contest ). But I will try with my friend , to come up some very hard problems( D, E div 1), for other problems I think I have enough ideas to devise a daily div 2 contest :D Please give me advice, how I can invent hard problems ( I know it isn't easy and you must know a lot about programming and contests) , but tell me how did you come up your 'famous tasks' ?

Also, If you have some impressions of our contests or some intresting problems on codeforces , I like to hear it .

At the end, I will write one my task ( certainly something like this already exist, but I didn't see it before) :

PROBLEM 1

You have plane with n points (-10^6<=Xi,Yi <=10^6, n<=10^5). You should draw a line which will contain the most points from this set. Print the number of points on this line. (I didn't solve this task, but I expect you can find some solution lower than O(n^2)).

PROBLEM 2

You have plane with n points ( -100<=Xi,Yi<=100, n<=50). Find minimum number of lines needed to cover all the points . ( For previous problem I had some solution, but for this I can't find something normal ).

Thanks for reading, sorry for Englsih and solve tasks ;)

P.S. I can add more intresting tasks.

Hello Codeforces community !

I am glad to announce Codeforces Round 307 (Div. 2) on 12th of June at 19:30 MSK. Authors of this contest are Nikola Mandic (nikola12345) and Aleksa Plavsic (allllekssssa). This is our first round and we really tried to make interesting and solvable problems. Traditionally Div.1 participants can take part out of the competition ( personally I believe that the problems are worth to Div 1 participants, and nobody can solve everything in 20 minutes ). This is the first Serbian round and we want to invite our friends from Serbia to take part in this round and maybe prepare some of next rounds.

The main character of this round is gonna be GukiZ ( our proffesor of computer science ). He really helps us to become better people and developers !

We want to thank Zlobober for help in preparing contest and great advices, Delinur for translating problems statements into Russian and MikeMirzayanov for fantastic Codeforces and Polygon platform !

We wish you great fun, a lot of Successful hacks, Accepted solutions and high rating !

UPD: Scoring distribution: 500 — 1250 — 1750 — 2000 — 2500.

UPD2: Due to technical reasons round was delayed by 10 minutes. Stay tuned!

UPD3: +5 minutes. Thanks for your patience!

UPD4: System testing is complete, but the rating update won't be that fast since we are working on improving our cheater catching system. Thanks for your understanding!

Congratulations to winners!

DIV 1:
1.MrDindows

2.kennethsnow

3.ecnerwala

4.I_love_Tanya_Romanova

5.Hasan0540

DIV 2:

2.slo

3.wangjing

4.cyber_tourist

5.Moose_Lee

Thanks to all participants. We hope you have a good time and learn something new.

Today I have a lot of free time. I was looking for competitions today, and I found only one:

DMPG '15 — Gold Division (Open Unofficial Mirror)

Contest Time

Contest site https://dmoj.ca/

Contest isn't very popular ( last time was only 70 participants). If you also have free time, participate and compete against me (I hope for 100 competitiors). Contest has 6 problems and lasts 3 hours. Site also has some rating system...

For me this is new thing,I'd like to try new site and solve new problems.

Lately we have several only Div 1 contests. For me that is very good.Tasks are very good and I always find some task solvable for me. I love div 1 contest, and if I have free time I take part in it.

I noticed only one thing, in my opinion wrong. When we have only div 1 contest, div 2 users can't participate (at least unofficialy).Since there are many div 2 contestants , I think it would be fair to allow them to unofficial contest. They have different rooms, don't have rating and pressure , like div 1 users in only div 2 rounds.

If div 2 competitors agree , It would be nice to change that in the upcoming contest :)

Thanks for reading , and sorry , I'm really trying with English.

Exapmle:

7 2 ababb 1 3

Answer should be 0 , but this code gave result 1.

Hello CF community!

This blog is my way to draw attention and perhaps start an initiative to solve one big problem on Codeforces.

Before every only div 2 round,CF get hundreds of 'new ingenious users' , and they done all problems, have around 5-6 hacks per round and become candidate masters. That means no opportunity for regular div 2 competitors to jump with rating and feel how to be a winner.Maybe this is unsolved problem , but if we try together to stop this , I belive that we will achieve ceratin results.

Now I will write some of my suggestions , I'd love to read your :)

First:

Div 1 competitions are rarely ,but everybody who prepare tasks for only div 2 contest can ask someone with a high rating to help him around the idea of the most difficult problems. This is certainly reduce only div 2 contest.I think that the best users like tourist ,Petr,YuukaKazami... give some advice and help about preparing(Maybe I am wrong ?!).

Second:

Giving price for best 2-3 users in unofficial standings. For Codeforces it wouldn't be a lot of money and number of 'new ingenious users' probably reduce.

Third:

Don't write winners on blog for competiton.A lot of people imagine to be found on it and and don't choose the assets to do so.

Fourth:

Having separated rating graph for div 1 and div 2 contest. How would that work exactly I don't know, but for official competitors it could work as so far , and for div 1 competitors it could be calculated as for big competitions when we have one round for all members.

Fifth:

Change time for div 1 contests. In the previous period I done a small number of div 1 contests.A lot of round was held in unusual time of some working day ( for example tommorow is Monday and in 10 am we have contest ?! ). It's easy to change and fewer people would be hungry for rated contest.

I think that all these things are possible to do , some may have been wrong I love to see your opinion.

Also it would be nice to see suggestion of some important CF guy like MikeMirzayanov and Zlobober...

Thanks for reading and if we are persistent we will surely succeed improve our Codeforces :)

First, congratulations ,to all CF members, the New Year!
Maybe, this blog will be boring for you,but I have a wish to share with you impressions from this year's contests.Everything started slowly,I was only newbie and I didn't see how I can improve my programming skills.Always I spent all time to solve one or two problem on the contests. However I was sure that I will succeed on our country competition, and then BUM!I didn't pass the Regional cometition!I was near the border, but had 10 points less!
After that I started to work harder,I learned some algorithms,I learned some data structures(BIT,Heap,Segment Tree,dsu...) and I had a lot of codeforces competitions where I can get new experience. Also, one important thing in all contests is hacking. On every competition I thought about some special cases and watching other codes.I won points and also I saw some good ways to implement solution.

Now,I know that a long way front of me.I will continue to work and I hope that one day become red! In my country competitons haven't start yet,but I hope I can at least pass the regional competition :) I will try to solve some harder problems and show that I deserve yellow. I'd like to mention If Codeforces team let,my friend and I are going organize one CF round!
Thanks for reading, and I hope that people who are currently weaker than me get one more motive to work.
