Google Hash Code 2016

Hash Code is a team-based programming competition organized by Google for students and industry professionals (18+) across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. You pick your team and programming language, and Google pick a real-life engineering problem to solve. Are you up for the challenge?

The competition takes place over two rounds:

  • Online Qualification Round : Your team can participate from one of our competition hubs or from wherever else you’d like.

Date and Time : Thursday, 11th February 2016 (18:30 to 22:30 CET)

  • Final Round : Top scoring teams from the Online Qualification Round will be invited to Google Paris to compete in the Final Round of the competition.

Date and Time : Saturday, 19th March 2016 (9:30 to 21:30 CET)

Since I dug through the rules, I'll add few more interesting excerpts from them:

  • "In order to ensure a proper diversity of the Participants to the Final Round, the Jury reserves the right to set a cap on the number of qualified Teams per country, or to invite an additional number of Teams at its own discretion."
  • "The top 3 teams at the Final Round will win one Google related product per Participant, of a minimal value of €190."
  • "Participants must be over 18 years of age at the date of the Online Qualification Round.", I'm adding this, because it's easy to interpret the rules as "student or 18+ professional".
  • "Participants agree to bear their own expenses for participating to the competition (such as computer equipment, software licenses, transportation and accommodation costs). For the participation to the Final Round, Google may decide to provide local accommodation and/or a participation to transport costs for students. The modalities and amount will be fixed at Google’s sole and absolute discretion. It will be communicated to the Participants qualified to the Final Round together with their invitation to the Final Round."
  • "Team composition cannot be changed after the Online Qualification Round has begun."

I also read through the 2015 problems and they seem okay-ish. Nothing really interesting, but definitely nothing broken. Rather standard optimization problems inspired by "real-world problems" and not very interesting to visualize.

Overall, Deadline24 looks so much better ;)
