The VK Cup 2016 is starting soon and I want to compete in all of it's rounds, I don't speak russian, and I'm willing to compete using statements google or yandex translated.

My main concern is: Mike (Mirzayanov) already said some of the rounds will be translated, and of course it will be a lot better to compete using correctly (by humans) translated statements, and now I wonder, if I register for official rounds like the first qualification (russian speaking people only) can I later don't participate in let's say official round 1, to compete in unofficial (yet in english) version of the round, or must I keep in the 'official' versions?

Formalizing, I want to maximize numbers of rounds where I participate, and as a tie breaker, I want to maximize the number of 'real english' rounds where I participate, then what should I do, in particular, should I compete in this qualification round??

The rounds are supposed to be for Russian speakers only. Do you think they will pay for your transportation if you live in the US? Do you think they will send you a T-shirt if you live in the US? The answer to the questions are no, for cost prohibits them. This is merely speculation and not official, but I would welcome an official answer.

You don't understand. Let me clarify things:

I don't care about prizes, I just want to compete, and I will compete, even if I need to descipher problem statements from the samples.

I just want to know if by competing right now (first qualification round) I am losing the right to later participate in english versions of the next rounds (because being an 'oficial' competitor), and if that's what happens, if there is anything I can do to fix it.

And if there is nothing I can do to fix it, then I will probably compete anyway and later feel sad for being struggling with russian while other people have nice translated statements.

Anyway thanks for your help and quick response.

Your answer for both questions is wrong. There was a Russian-speaking team that passed to the final round with one member SergeyRogulenko working in Google in Mountain View. VK successfully paid for their transportation.

I'm not 100% sure for the second question, but I believe that T-shirts have also been sent to the foreign countries.

Maybe both qualification rounds are for VK Cup Teams only, so they won't be translated, and starting from Round 1, Codeforces users from around the world can take part unofficially, and those will be the rounds that will get translated.

But that's only an assumption. Maybe Mike Mirzayanov can clarify things up.

Quals are non-rated, but Rounds 1-3 and Finals will be rated. All of them will have open edition for global community. So each of Codeforces members will be able to take part.

Hi.

All employees of VK are Russian-speaking and as I know there are no plans to change it. VK chiefs approved VK Cup as a championship among Russian-speaking participants. I think it is polite to respect decision, especially that VK sponsored (without any requirement ) Codeforces for many years and have done a lot for the global community. Also all sapid rounds will be open as a rated events for the global community.

So I ask you to refrain from participation if your are non Russian-speaking. I promise you a lot of interesting problems and fun from participation in unofficial (but rated!) editions of rounds.

Thanks a lot for your response, of course I understand your vision of the matter and I will therefore not compete in any of the qualification rounds, altough I don't think it really matters to the organizers if some of the competitors (with no aspiration to prices or travels) use google translate to compete, anyway it's their right to choose who competes I guess.

A better solution in my opinion would have been to admit anyone in qualification rounds, and then everyone who wants to compete in english versions can 'give up' their oficial participation and switch to unofficial (but rated) editions of rounds 1 to 3.

Thanks again for your response and for this great platform
