      If you think so, look back at the number of times when a perfectly sound comment (and I'm not talking about mine) gets downvotebombed for no stated reason. You seem to read them often enough to notice. No, the up/downvotes are a very random thing — and should not be taken seriously, except in absolute value as the number of users who noticed you.

              Ok. The comment had a form of inductive logic, stating supporting evidence (too many good comments get downvotebombed) and then a generalised conclusion (votes are too random to reflect anything). The supporting evidence, of course, can't be applied generally — in fact, such an attempt would lead to a contradiction with the conclusion.

              It's imageboard culture. If you frequented them, you'd learn not to get angry over... well, anything on the Internet, because there is nobody to get angry at and it doesn't matter because you're just part of a mass of anons. You can't get hurt, it won't affect you IRL — unless you let it. You can even act as two people and attack yourself. It teaches you to laugh at the weirdest things...

              It also decreases the use of smileys in conversation, since you can post an image (or more of them) with every post and they often convey the mood of the post. Here's a random one I picked. The bait pictures are a classic meme indicating someone who doesn't believe what he's saying, just saying it for the sake of getting the community to respond. Which is absolutely what my posts are :D
