I'm wondering why nobody posts this topic earlier...

Let's predict final four of EURO 2016 in France! I hope there are many football fans amongst Codeforces community.

My bet:

  • France

  • Italy

  • Germany

  • One of dark horses: Belgium, Croatia, Poland

    It could have been such a great semifinal (I was hoping for it since the end of the group phase) — and then it would guarantee that one of these teams makes it to the final!

I personally always root for Netherlands and Germany, because in my opinion they play impressive football, really nice to watch. Of course I also root for Poland :)). And needless to say I support Poland more than Netherlands and Germany, so in Poland vs Germany match I will cheer Poland on :P. Unfortunately Netherlands didn't make it to Euro ;___;.

Btw in our country scumbag private channel bought rights to broadcast Euro and it is broadcasting most of the matches on channel which a little fraction of people has access to, so first time in my life I am not able to follow closely Euro/World Cup :/. Is there some Internet streaming with good quality and preferrably English commentary (or Polish :D)?

Spain can make the semis too, ahead of the likes of Italy, Belgium, Croatia and Poland, I feel. Surprised nobody has mentioned Spain yet, although they aren't close to what they were in the last 2 Euros.

    Why not? France are the hosts this time, and that is an obvious advantage. Also, they have a very talented squad, especially their midfield packed with the likes of Pogba, Kante, and Matuidi, not to mention Sissokho and Cabaye. They also have a star in the form of Greizmann, and Payet is also capable of moments of magic, as he showed in their opening game. And I haven't even mentioned of their strong defence and talents like Coman and Martial.

    Given that both my predictions (Portugal is the winner of EURO 2016 and Cristiano Ronaldo is Ballon d'Or 2016 winner) were correct, I decided to share with you even more inside information.

    Now my bet is for the winner of UEFA Champions League 2016/17.

    And the winner will be... Read Madrid! Yep, that's going to be the first time since the new format of Champions League was introduced in the beginning of 90s when there will be the same winner in 2 consecutive years.

Italy.

Italy has the strongest defence (Bonucci , Barzagli , Chiellini , Buffon) with good chemistry as all of them play for the same club and their match against Belgium showed that their forwards/midfielders are fast enough to make a strong counter attack.

As always Germany, Spain and Italy will be in the top. Next there is France and Portugal, maybe Poland ;).

But I dont know why do you say that Belgium is strong?

2010 — Belgium doesn't qualify,

2012 — Belgium doesn't qualify

2014 — Belgium is in 1/4 (best achievement in recent years)

Moreover elimination group of Belgium was very weak: Bosna and Herzegovina, Wales, Andorra, Cyprus and Israel — come on...

The 2nd place in FIFA ranking is a joke. I bet Belgium will not pass to the play-off stage. (maybe with a huge luck from 3rd place)

    Belgium is considered strong because they have many famous players. However, this is not a sufficient condifion.

    You may be right about Belgium not qualifying from their group (which is still highly unlikely even though they lost their first game) and that their #2 ranking is a joke, but you can't say Belgium aren't a strong side. On paper, Belgium is rightly considered extremely strong, and are tipped to be the dark horses for the tournament. But for them to do well, their manager needs to get his tactics right, which he didn't in his last game. And as for their failures in their recent tournaments, this is a Golden generation of Belgian players. This is their strongest set of players since the last 2 decades. Just take a look at their squad and realise how strong they are. GKs — Courtois is a really good goalie, who just had a bad 2015-16 season. Mignolet and Gillet are good too. Defence — Kompany, their best Centre back(CB) is injured, but they still have Alderweireld, Vermaelen (who is good when fit), Vertonghen (who is a LB as well). Also, Jordan Lukaku and Ciman are good full backs. Centre Midfield — Nainggolan, Alex Witsel and Moussa Dembele are all really good mids. (Fellaini? meh). Attacking Mids + Wingers — Hazard, de Bruyne, Carrasco (who was brilliant in the Champions League Final), Mertens, and Chadli. Need I say more? Forwards — Origi, Benteke, Romelu Lukaku, Michy Batshuayi are all very good. Origi was on fire for a brief period towards the end of the season before he got injured. Michy has a good season, although Marsaille did not.

    Of course, a start studded line up won't get you anywhere without the right tactics, and mentality, but you see why Belgium are considered strong?

So far I have watched five matches, but none of them fully, one half out of each. Yet, I haven't missed any goal in those halves I didn't watch and have seen eight goals in those halves I watched, how lucky I am : D (second half of France:Romania (2:1), first half of Switzerland:Turkey (1:0), second half of Poland:Northern Ireland (1:0), first half of Croatia:Turkey (1:0) and second half of Hungary:Austria (2:0)).

Btw it is funny that cf community seems to believe much more in Poland than me :P.

Netherlands is pretty awesome, after seeing their games in qualifications Netherlands became my favorite. It would be sad if they couldn't qualify. I didn't watch their first match but I am sure they won.
