Recently, a terrorist group has attacked in Iranian Parliament in Tehran. Link to the newspaper

I feel really worried about the safety of contestants who are going to participate in IOI 2017 there (which is, including me). I also worried that this year's IOI will be cancelled due to terrorism.

Does your Ministry of Education and Training worry about this? What is your thinking about this incident?

To be serious, all this shit about terrorism is to scare people. You can be sure, that this won't happen with you. Don't intimidate each other, please.

How can we be sure? From what I've seen, terrorists choose some big events and IOI isn't a small one.

I'm sure all people who got caught in terrorist attacks thought so too.

Their goal is to intimidate as much people as possible by killing people, These aren't empty threats and thinking otherwise is retarded. The right option isn't to ignore them, but to fight back.

Of course, I agree that Iran isn't much of a terrorist target, but generally the approach "lol nothing will go wrong" is a bad one.

It should not be taken lightly, I agree, but the whole point of terrorism is to terrorize. Such events are vastly overplayed in the media -

          Terror attacks

Falling prey to these tactics and panicking is exactly what they want. Don't do it.

So recoginising a modern problem that needs to be stopped = panicking? And by your logic, should murder be legal because many people die daily anyway? Lolwut.

UPD: Based on the number of downvotes vs replies, I can see this triggered a lot of people.

In fact, a death caused by terrorism can be classified as a death caused by war, murder, (?)undetermined events, transport accidents (who knows what's on their mind), etc. Also, I believe that if I know that I have good health at the moment, it's kinda unlikely for me to die from diabetes, mental health, kidney, nervous system or digestive disorders, or cancer at IOI, right?

Iran is located at the worst point of the world in terms of terrorism, at the heart of the Middle East but during the past 10 year This is the first time we had a terrorist attack in Tehran capital of Iran.

Some news agencies from out of Iran are trying to say Iran is unsafe while currently Iran is the safest country in our region.

Do not worry about terrorist attacks during your stay in Tehran and I wish you the best result at IOI ;)

Thanks for your wish. It's also a relief to hear that Iran is a generally safe country.

Iran is very safe and this will not happen again. In this CNN post you can read that terrorist attacks in Iran are very rare and the last time was in 2010. The last thing you should be worried about is safety. It's guaranteed. This won't affect IOI at all.

So stop worrying and go practice ;)

I am sure that the committee in charge will look into this and only conduct IOI 2017 there if they are sure that its safe. So don't worry and continue your preparation :) . I understand your concern, but its always important to do whats necessary and possible. In this case, you can do nothing other than to prepare. Best of luck again :)

Iran looks like much more safe from terrorism than most of European countries. So if you accept possibility of vacation in (for example) France, you should accept travel to Iran too. Probability of being damaged in such attack much less than probability of being damaged in car accident.

In Egypt renting trucks is forbidden. You can tell your governments to learn from me.

Contestants problems = {"some will not get visa in some countries", "some will suffer a lot to manage travel cost", "the venue may have some security issues"} :'(
I feel sorry for this attack.
As a non-Iranian I believe (from what I see) Iran is not so unsafe.
But whatever, connective authority should take the arrangement of IOI very seriously.
It should get equal amount of care an international Cricket/Football tournament gets.

Iran is at war with daesh and this acts is nearly necessarily. Even so now we can see that Iran has got better security than many of European countries, judging by the number of terrorist attacks. Now you almost nowhere can be sure that you will not fall under attack, because terrorism and daesh are global problem

The reason why New Zealand will not participate this year's IOI seems is because of the terrorism.

Anyway, hope all participants will be safe :)

Did they withdraw as a reaction to this event, or they haven't registered at all? Is this the Education Ministry's decision or contestants' one? How sure are you that the only reason was this one? I don't know much about New Zealand, but I guess that there might exist visa issues, too, that might have made their decision much easier. Does anybody know about any other country not participating for the same reason?
