Whistle's blog

By Whistle, history, 7 years ago, In English

As a way to give back to the amazing community, I will make a Youtube channel
explaining algorithm techniques and Codeforces problems solutions.
It will be targated towards newer members who are not very experienced in competitive programming yet.
The problems will be at level Div2 D-E up to Div1 D.

I want to know which method do you prefer ?
1- pick up some old problems that I find interesting and explain the solution and the techniques that I used.
2- pick up a problem from the last contest on Codeforces and explain the solution and the techniques in that problem.

Why not both? I think this would be an excellent idea. Perhaps you could link your YT channel so that people can subscribe now, so that they don't miss your next blog?

2 would be good option and also discuss old problems related to that topic or a slight variant, that way many problems will be covered.

Both are preferable.... But, I think the first is better because if you're doing something you're interested in, it will be more energetic and will end up being done better than if you're doing something just because it was recent.

Div 2 D-E = Div B and C, right ?

Include Div 2 C = Div 1 A as well.

Also sometimes you can include Div 2 A problems when you're not in the mood for making a long extensive video, but still feel like churning some output. You can have a seperate playlist for this titled 'Aha ! solutions' or something. For this, I'd recommend you choose A problems which have those quick Aha ! solutions where one quick observation makes the problem easy, rather than those A problems where it's immediately obvious what to do after reading the question and is just implementation.

(An example of the kind of problem that would be included here is Mahmud and Longest Uncommon Subsequence).

On first reading, it looks difficult, but one quick Aha ! observation transforms it into an easy problem. These videos would be useful and would be targeted towards enticing people into joining competitive programming rather than beginners.

It's a good initiative. Put down the name of the YouTube channel so that we can subscribe.

1 — However, I'd like to suggest that you pick up problems such that their solutions are useful in many other problems, i.e they are general enough to be used in other kinds of problems. That may include problems of recent contests.

Nice! What format will your channel be in? (coding or written explanations, live camera or screen capture, etc)

If you have any questions or want tips for starting a channel, don't hesitate to ask.

Awesome dude can't wait for you to start your channel. Do both please but of couse 1 is the best, there are many beautiful problems from past contests than from the current contest.

Please use both. After a contest ends discuss the problems of that contest. And if there is a good gap between two contest, pick up some old problems and discuss them.
