It is basically trying to solve (by yourself or reading the editorial) the easiest or maybe 2 easiest questions which you were not able to solve in the given time limit.

Basically if you were able to solve A and B during the contest, trying C after the contest means that you are "upsolving" C.

Upsolving means to solve the contest problems after the contest is over. Primarily it means to solve those problems that you could not sole during the contest, but you can also solve the ones you already solved using some better(or more efficient) method and might learn some more implementaton tricks. Upsolving is one of the most important things which "guarentees" success and improvement in the long run.

Bit of both, really.

Suppose you can solve upto B reliably in a CF contest-then after the contest, you should aim to solve C after contest with/without help/editorial. If a competitor/batchmate/contestant of similar strength compared to yours solves any problem of that contest, of higher difficulty, you should try to solve it as well.
