The most recent version of this post is available here.

For the first time, the International Olympiads in Informatics in Teams (with the official participation of Italy, Romania and Russia) will be mirrored into online contests. These contests, of a lower difficulty level than those of the IOI, are intended for teams of 4 contestants from the same high school. However, everyone is welcome to participate to the mirror contests, especially if you are considering to join officially the IIOT in the future! More specifically, we allow:

  • several teams from the same school (also in the official contest)
  • teams participating only in some contests (also in the official contest)
  • changes in team members
  • teams of students from different schools
  • smaller teams

The mirror contests timing will be USACO-like: it will be open for 24 hours but you will be able to compete for up to 3 hours (you can decide when to "start" your time window, after the login). Participation will be available upon registration to the Italian trainings website (localized also in English): please do it in advance as it may be impossible during the contest! The problem statements will be available in English only, and the languages allowed are C, C++ and Pascal. Every contest will consist of 7 problems (see https://ioi.team for further information).

Note: you can decide when to start your 3 hour time window, but remember that the contest will end 24 hours after the start of the official contest regardless of your time window!

If you want to participate, you must:

  1. Visit the training website: https://training.olinfo.it
  2. Click "Sign up" (if you haven't already done it previously)
  3. Fill out the form and then confirm
  4. Visit the contest list: https://training.olinfo.it/contests
  5. Click on the OIS2018 -- <round> list entry
  6. Log in with the same username and password you used to sign up
  7. If the login is successful you will be ready to participate, just wait for the contest to start! (and maybe save the page in your bookmarks, so that you can quickly get back to it when the contest begins)
  8. When the contest starts, you will see a red button. Click it when you want to start your 3 hour time window!
  9. The ranking for each contest will be available at https://squadre.olinfo.it/ranking2 only when each contest ends
  10. The tasks will also be available for training in https://training.olinfo.it few days after the contests
  11. Good luck and have fun!

The schedule of the contests is the following (starting times in the CEST/CET time zone):

  • Practice: from oct. 23 to oct. 27 (whole days)
  • Round 1: oct. 30 @ 15:00
  • Round 2: nov. 28 @ 15:00
  • Round 3: dec. 20 @ 14:30
  • Round 4: jan. 25 @ 14:30
  • Finals: feb. 16 @ 17:30

We hope that you will join us or encourage your students to do so!

Giorgio Audrito (on behalf of the Italian IIOT organizers)

What do you mean through official participation of Romania? If I'm a Romanian, then I can compete officially somehow?

LE: I just opened the site: "Teams cannot have members who: are attending the 5th class in the school year 2016/2017, were awarded a medal in the Olympics National Individual during the school year 2015/2016 and who were born before July 1st 1998." It seems that regardless of the answer to my question, I'm not eligible to compete anyway

If you are eligible you can, but your school need to subscribe your team with your national organizer (see http://cni.nt.edu.ro/new/ for Romania). The official contests are held independently in each participating country (we just provide an unofficial mirror contest for non-participating countries or non-eligible teams).

The rules on teams have been slightly updated this year (and I fear this update is not reflected on the website): 1 out of 4 member is allowed to participate (provided that is IOI-eligible), while 3 out of 4 member have the further restriction (IOI-n+1-eligible and not national medalist).

    Does it answer your question?

I know I already missed a round, but is there any way to sign up now (and be considered to have gotten 0 points in the missed round)? When I first read your answer, for some strange reason, I didn't see that this time you can have one national medalist in the team so I thought that I can't compete and now it seems I can but I can't find a registration place. Is it already too late?

I guess the answer is no. So when are they going to get posted? Or just the link is incorrect?

Are Romania's official national IOIT finals on 16th February too? I'm asking because the previous 4 stages were held on same days too, and that might be the case for finals too
