AtCoder will hold a new onsite contest called AtCoder World Tour Finals 2018.

If you get the top 30 places in AGCs (and maybe some other types of contests), you will get GP30 scores. Eight people with the highest total GP30 scores in 2018 (except for people under 18) will be invited to Japan, probably in February 2019. We will cover flights and hotels. There's no upper bound for the age. You can participate in the finals even if you are employed.

Please check the details here.

Here's the total GP30 scores in 2017:

The best Christmas news we could hope for! Is it possible to see a full GP30 table for this year?

Also, "AtCoder WTF" name is dope.

Great idea!

It might be a bit uncomfortable for top people because every round is an opportunity and thus they almost have to participate. Maybe it would be better to count only one's best 10 results in a year?

Also, "no age limit" in the title isn't technically true :D

One motivation for the contest is to attract more people to participate in AtCoder contests, so we want to give some advantage for active people.

Still, I believe the advantage is not too big because of sharp GP30 system (e.g. 1st > 10th * 4). Last year the top 10 rule only changes LHiC's score from 480 to 478.

This seems like it will only attract already highly rated people to do more contests instead, which won't really increase the number of users by that much. To me it seems that the more important goal is to attract more people of all levels?

Highly rated participants attract others. They make a contest more prestigious.

By the number of users, Hackerrank is the largest contest in the world, but for me (and I believe for most of serious competitive programmers) TC and CF are much more important.

On a side note: for me TopCoder is currently slowly dying, and I'd definitely pick something like AtCoder/CsAcademy over it.

I think I got your point that you are not really interested in getting a few thousand beginners just to make numbers look better, but I also believe that it will not make much effect for stronger contestants.

I'm definitely not a beginner, yet this announcement didn't have much effect for me. I already had AtCoder contests high on my priority list because of nice problems, strong participants and system with little number of issues. It is clear to me that I don't have any serious chances for top8 even if I'll get back to training and make myself participate in every contest there. I was like "OK, another cool thing from AtCoder", but generally I'm going to keep taking some of your contests and missing some of your contests — just like before.

Moreover, when you have series of this kind with a lot of contests aggregated — variance is probably even smaller, so if random yellow guy has some chance to do well in a single qualification round because of meeting a problem he saw before or having really nice day — one such good performance will not put him high enough in overall standings at the end of the year.

Maybe if you want to support those who are active — it makes sense to add another leaderboard with small prizes (like t-shirts or some more creative souvenirs) at the end of the year, higher number of prize places (100 or even more?) and strong focus on participation (for example, rank contestants by total number of problems solved and total penalty time).

Same for me, I have even less of a chance of this being relevant, so it doesn't affect how often I'll participate.

(And it's not like AtCoder lacked strong contestants anyway.)

We'll do something (AGC, ARC, ABC, or sponsored contest with English) almost every weekend.

In the worst case, the next AGC will be in the beginning of February. I hope to do one more in January.

Btw, last AGC was held in August... Saying just this is little distortion because of Code Festival, but last rated contest for everyone was in October, more than two months ago :/

I don't quite understand, isn't the last rated contest for everyone code festival final parallel(which is in November)? or is that not for everyone?

Ahhh, yes, you're right, sorry for that. I forgot there was a parallel final which was rated and that's why when browsing through list of contests I flagged them as either not for everyone or not rated.

        Number of rated contests for everyone per month: 1, 2, 1, 2, 2, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 0

Sorry, I was a bit worried about the number of good problems and saved AGC. Two high school students will finish entrance exams in February and the situation will be better.

          quality > quantity

Making contests when you have good problems is much better than a fixed schedule.

Now everyone should submit their solutions even if it won't give them first place
