Is USA great again?

It seems USA is excelling in recent competitions.

This year USA won both IMO and IOI. Congrats James Li and Benq! (note that both have chinese surnames :) )

The challenger for the world chess championship is Caruana (also from USA, although some people says that he is italian).

Is USA getting great again? does the Trump administration is the cause of this notorious coincidences?

        Neither Wesley So, Yasser Seirawan, Varuzhan Akobian, Samuel Reshevsky, Bobby Fischer ...Although some people say they have other nationalities :)

No, because China puts weird restrictions for participating in Olympiads (you can't be too young, you can only get a gold medal once). If those restrictions weren't there, China might win nearly all the time.

    I think Chinese interest in International Olympiads decreased greatly because participation no longer counts toward the Gaokao exam.

      For most Chinese, a gold medal of NOI is enough, IOI is just for one's dream and honor, no actual benefit at all.
