I enjoy both Codeforces and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , and I was wondering what would my Codeforces rating be in CS:GO ranking system. Well, I did the math, enjoy!

The method

I used this CS:GO rank distribution to find out the percentage of players in each skill group.

  • Silver I: 3.90%
  • Silver II: 4.23%
  • Silver III: 4.37%
  • Silver IV: 5.21%
  • Silver Elite: 6.44%
  • Silver Elite Master: 7.78%
  • Gold Nova I: 8.76%
  • Gold Nova II: 8.79%
  • Gold Nova III: 9.05%
  • Gold Nova Master: 8.08%
  • Master Guardian I: 7.55%
  • Master Guardian II: 6.61%
  • Master Guardian Elite: 5.24%
  • Distinguished Master Guardian: 4.15%
  • Legendary Eagle: 3.25%
  • Legendary Eagle Master: 3.20%
  • Supreme Master First Class: 2.64%
  • The Global Elite: 0.75%

At the time of writing this blog, there were 21275 active users in Codeforces. I listed the ratings of all active users, sorted the list and divided the list into skill groups using the abovementioned distribution. If the skill group boundary was between two users, the higher rating was used as the lower bound for the higher skill group.

The results

Here are the rating bounds for each CS:GO skill group:

  • Silver I:  ≤  1000
  • Silver II: 1001..1103
  • Silver III: 1104..1167
  • Silver IV: 1168..1225
  • Silver Elite: 1226..1278
  • Silver Elite Master: 1279..1331
  • Gold Nova I: 1332..1376
  • Gold Nova II: 1377..1403
  • Gold Nova III: 1404..1442
  • Gold Nova Master: 1443..1491
  • Master Guardian I: 1492..1566
  • Master Guardian II: 1567..1652
  • Master Guardian Elite: 1653..1742
  • Distinguished Master Guardian: 1743..1851
  • Legendary Eagle: 1852..1961
  • Legendary Eagle Master: 1962..2123
  • Supreme Master First Class: 2124..2447
  • The Global Elite:  ≥  2448

If you're playing CS:GO, did your in-game and CF ranks match? At least I've got a lot of catching-up to do in CS:GO. :D

Looks quite accurate, high GN3 is considered to be the average of all players playing matchmaking, I think an analysis was done recently that showed cf average rating is around 1450.

I also need to catch up in CS:GO :D

IMO you have to use common sense and not mafs on the ranking system to find the correspondence between ranks in CS:GO and Codeforces. That is what I did below with explanations.

  • Silver ranks: Specialists and below. You can get out of silver relatively easily after playing the game for some 30hours thus 15 competitions max should get you out of silver.
  • Gold nova hell: Expert rank (like myself at the time of writing this). This is the gold nova hell of Codeforces. The only way to get out of this rank is either through a global round or by solving 2-3 consecutive times A through D without missing the 63rd test case on C. Again this can be done relatively easily but you need to commit on this one to get it done.
  • Gs and DMGs: Candidate Masters. This one is obvious.
  • LE and LEM: Master's up to Grandmasters.
  • SM: International Grandmasters.
  • The GE: legendary grandmasters.

lol comparing a rank held by thousands of users in CS:GO to rank held by 27 people in Codeforces. I would argue the "most" correct way of comparing is the way done in the blog.

I was merely presenting my opinion would not expect that the next day I would be getting so much negative votes XD. But if you want to call me MG2 I'm 100% with you. Hopefully I rank up in this joint division round and next time I say something I don't get so much negatives XD. Legendary Eagles here I come!

      i hope so :d

but there is this fact that i do not enjoy cp as much as i enjoy playing csgo with my friends, i did not even care about rank i just grew overtime on my own (that is the first reason i have over 5k hours, because i enjoy every minute of it)

maybe i will start enjoying cp more when i learn new algorithms and tricks because i remember when i played csgo seriously for 2 years, i was enjoying it more than ever because i was learning new techniques...

I think anything becomes addictive, or at easy to do often, when you get accustomed to doing it regularly and gain the mindset. It's all a matter of choosing something you think is useful, initially getting yourself into a regular routine (the hardest part), and then continuing that routine.
