Computer Virus Codechef Problem

Hi Everyone!
I am trying to solving this codechef problem.
I am stuck in the theoretical mathematics part of it.
The editorial explains some equations which i am unable to understand.
Can somebody please explain me how these equations are formed and worked along and where does this algebraic representation of pascal triangle given in the editorial come from?
Any help is appreciated.

Pascal triangle comes from a famous French mathematician called Blaise Pascal. It is widely used, specially in combinatorics theory.

      Put a lot of monitors in a row, each one with a number on screen, then download a virus and run it in one of the computers. See what happens and then code what you just saw.
