IOI 2020 Rules

The draft of IOI 2020 rules is now available.

This has been approved at IOI 2019 GA, since there was a desire to know major rule changes a year in advance. To allow flexibility, some minor changes are still possible, and the final version will be as usual presented at IOI 2020 GA.

Key differences are:

  1. Permission to use earplugs and earmuffs during the contest, but needs to be submitted beforehand.

  2. Snacks require prior approval from the technical committee, and you must submit those beforehand.

  3. You must submit items you need for day 2 in the analysis of day 1. In other words, you can't leave it on the table, it will be cleared.

    Oh~ Nice to hear the changes!The IOI organizers are thinking more of the participaters.I sincerely wish that the participaters will perform better! :D

      But using earplugs and earmuffs may cause harm. When an announcement is published, it may go unnoticed to some participants. Usually, this is solved by reminding the the contestant that there's new announcement on CMS. However, participants wearing earplugs/earmuffs may not hear it. So to anyone planning to use them, use them at your own risk.

        Yeah,I agree.Everything has both sides,how it works mainly depends on the participaters' opinions.

        Permission to use earplugs and earmuffs is not going to cause harm, but using them during the contest might (although I've never used earplugs efficient enough to block out an announcement that loud). My main point is that giving contestants more freedom is rarely a bad thing (unless it allows cheating). Similar issue is raised in the "Ending the Competition" section, where they say you are responsible for using certain IDEs. Permitting us to use CodeBlocks is common sense, but using it in contest can be detrimental and should be done at competitor's own risk.

    About 3. During IOI 2019, we were already asked to resubmit our keyboards/mouses/etc after the day1 contest had finished. So now they only stated it in the regulations officially.

      Yes indeed, this also applies to most of the changes in the rules.
