Do IOI medalists get money in your country?

Do IOI medalists get money as a reward in your country? How much (bronze/silver/gold) and who pays it?

We are discussing whether IOI medalists should be rewarded in my country (at the moment they don't get anything), and it would be interesting to know about the situation in other countries.

In Russia gold medalists receive about 15000USD, silver — 7500

    It's funny because if you are from Moscow you get around twice that amount. And also people from Moscow get money for the national Olympiad so I got around 5000USD for being top86 in Russia.

    It's worth mentioning that nobody received this amount so far. This reward was established only a year ago and was not ever paid.

In Malaysia we don't. In fact, in some years participants are required to pay for their own ticket due to lack of funding. Though, we will try to provide financial aid for those who can't afford their own ticket in the event that there's no funding.

If an Indian wins a gold medal in IOI 2020, they get roughly 18200 USD. The amount keeps increasing every year.

In Bosnia technically no, but the local government or sometimes the president himself would reward the medalist, depends I guess. There's plenty of scholarships in each country, including Bosnia and when you apply for one they sometimes take into account your competitive background in science like math or programming. The funny thing is when they calculate rankings, winning a competition at some level gives you points. You usually you get like 1 point for winning your local competition, 2 points for winning your regional competition, 3 points for winning your national competition and only 4 points for winning (WINNING) an international competition. In a system where there are certainly a lot more than 4 points to be had, the idea of some guy who has won an INTERNATIONAL competition only getting 4 points for it is laughable.

I've seen some scholarships where you get 4 points for winning an international competition like IOI, and 5 extra points just for being a straight A pupil..

So basically winning a gold medal (but not being top3) would give you 0 points, and getting 4th place in nationals would also get you zero points, even tho getting a gold medal in IOI is exponentially more admirable than winning a regional/local competition.

I won my local and regional competition and I was awarded a scholarship, but I never made it into IOI.

In Estonia you have various "thank you" events for medalists, all of which award knickknacks no sensible person would want, gift cards for shops no one goes to and on a good day maybe chocolate.

Not in Korea. Several weeks ago, I was asked for a survey from the Ministry of Education about that matter. I replied that it's unnecessary.

In Taiwan, we get roughly about $6000 / $3000 / $1500 USD for gold / silver / bronze from our Ministry of Education.

What happened with me 4 years ago: I got $650 for my IOI gold medal. Each other got $430 for the silver medal. A bronze medal could bring you $300. We got money from Ministry of Education and Training, at the airport, immediately after arriving home from IOI.

Few months later, we got lots of bonus from companies and organizations, which was aroun $2000 more.

But most importantly, how much you earn depends on your city/province and high school. My high school gets lots of medals every year, so I got little money. But some of my friends come from where medalists are rare, they can get up to $10000 for his gold medal.

In Uzbekistan you'll get 10500$/6500$/4500$ for medals in international olympiads.

    Should be mentioned, that this rule was introduced only couple of months ago. So noone got money.

    Second there is no IOI medalists in Uzbekistan, so they are kind of safe. And probably in few years the best result will be some bronze medal, but very unlikely. And this is sad.

      Yes, it was introduced recently and will work from next year.

      And yes our performance wasn't good enough in IOIs. But I can't agree with your thoughts about future, cp improved a lot in recent years and introduction of above rule is one of the proofs of that. We have some hardworking youngsters and we hope to get medal very soon))

In Turkey, they are getting paid and also during their university years, they get a special scholarship from government, a nice amount for a student.

Additional note : They can enroll to any state university department about the branch of their medal, without taking care of their score in SAT-like Turkish exam for universities.

I will tell you about my situation here in Jordan. I got the first silver medal for Jordan. Heck, I think this is also the first silver medal in an International Science Olympiad. Jordan only got two other bronze medals in IOI (2018 and 2019). Our story with this year's IOI:

  1. There aren't any awards for any kind of achievements in IOI.

  2. There isn't any kind of news coverage, not even a single mention in TV.

  3. Because of the complete lack of the finding, JOI couldn't afford a full team. We only sent two participants this year. Ask Wesam about his feeling.

  4. We don't get offered any kind of scholarships by the Ministry Of Education.

Jordanian IOI participants are widely known in Jordan, even in local ACM contests. We participate in most local contests and we do participate in ACPC, taking high places usually. Yet no recognition/funding for us.

In Moldova you get $1000 / $750 / $500 for IOI and $500 / $375 / $250 for Balkan OI.

Vat de foooook? I thought our Polish Olympiad is generous cause I got laptop worth sth probably $750 for taking second place on POI (and nothing for IOI). And you guys tell me that it's common to give 15k USD or similar amounts in other countries o0? That's more than I earned in all contests combined in my life (ok, maybe if we add some scholarships I got for doing well in ICPC then it is not true).

In indonesia. We got about 550$ for our pocket money when participating IOI

I heard from my friend that silver medalist will get another 1000$

Before we are go to IOI. There are some training camps which also give us money (got about 300$ if you pass till the last Camp)

All transportation for IOI and our expenses at the camp (food, hotel, etc) paid by government

In the past. All bronze medalist will get full scholarship by goverment till bachelor(magister for silver and doctoral for gold) degree anywhere around the world. (Now due to short funding the scholarship only applies if we attending local University)

Freepass to University of Indonesia(one of Indonesian top Uni) if you are selected as first camp participant (around 30-35 people)

In Serbia, there is a onetime yearly reward for an international medal (which I am not sure is government funded) at an international olympiad which is officially recognised by our Ministry (alternatively, one may receive a lower sum for a Balkan Olympiad in case it is recognised or there is a recognised international one). As far as I'm informed, the reward is 1000€ for bronze, and around 1700€ for gold, which is the most money one can win in a year since nothing is stacked. Sure, there are rewards from cities but they are only comparably high if the city never even had a medalist (which is ... well, I find it hilarious).

In Belarus you get 500$ and than they take you to the army in 4 years.

    I'm actually not kidding, and 500 is for a Golden medal in any international olympiad, for bronze or silver u get even less idk how much)

afaik all you get in the US is an IOI XXXX role on the Unofficial USACO Server (I could be very wrong lol)
