I read online that it's not possible to become Red in 1 year which I know it's just not possible. But I got into an argument on someone on Reddit who says it's possible to reach Purple in 1 Year. Assuming I upsolve and practice everyday, what are the chances of reaching purple? I've only taken 1 introduction to algorithms class in college and 1 intro to number theory class. Currently a third year Computer Science student in US.

Is it possible to run a mile after a year?

I know it's not possible to run a 42 km. marathon after just one year of training, but I was wondering if I could run a mile.

By the way, it is possible to be red in one year too, specially with current rating inflation.

True, there is a big rating inflation, but they don't reach red users. Lots of new experts and CMs appeared.

Even if most programmers will be purple/orange after some contests, it's still very possible to be red in one year after starting. It's very personal, of course, but possible nevertheless.

I found this guy from yesterdays contest. He just reached master in about 6-7 contests. Really inspiring and motivating to reach that level so fast. Check him sayanmedya

Thanks for mentioning. By the way I started Codeforces late, previously I used to practice in CodeChef. So it's not true that I am a newbie to CP.

I am pretty sure you can. Just train hard and practice and if you are bad at maths, learn new concepts and train on it and learn some data structures and most importantly, algorithms and graphs. I have wrote a blog on how I became Expert in 6 months. Though, I haven't reached CM yet :c

It's very possible if you follow the suitable road map and do ample practice. Also you're a third year student which means you have good programming foundations. I think you can achieve this.

Until ans unless you are not super prodigy type of person , you are not going to reach red in one year.

One of my friends vss16996 became div1 in the last contest and it took him around one year.So it is possible if you train hard enough.

I would say maybe not if you had no computer science experience, but if u've had three years of computer science, I don't care how irrelevant, it should be very possible as long as you do the work and are focusing specifically on cf comps.

I joined Codeforces last October (participating in contests; my account is somewhat older and I used it very rarely to solve problems), after 3 years of programming.

I reached CM for the first time on May 1st. It took me less than a year.

Assuming I upsolve and practice everyday

That is very important :) Good Luck!

i think its possible but it needs hard work and very very powerful motivation and i know some one already his handle is this0is0the0end but he works so hard every single day !
