Sanitizer's blog

CF is a nice platform for Competitive Coding, everyone knows that, but once in a blue moon, there comes a contest which is good otherwie except for one or two silly errors from the Problemsetter's side. And due to this the round becomes unrated. This comes in as a boon to many but at the same time, many contestants feel sorry for themselves who were doing well in the round and ready to get a good positive delta but WHAM!!!!! The Round is unrated. I propose through this blog that in such cases, participant should have an option whether he/she wants the round to be rated for himself/herself or not. And then in the end, accordingly, the result is compiled (seperately for rated and unrated contestants). If this is possible, I think, it would be a really great feature to CF. Thanks. Any views on this are welcome. UPDATE : This option will be unlocked if and only if there is some error on the problemsetter's side.

It would just mean that people with positive rating change would want the round to be rated which will lead to rating inflation.

According to your theory, people who made bad in the contest would make themselves unrated. Then, the people who were going to have small positive delta, would get negative delta(as the people who did worse chose unrated). This cycle keeps going till a very small amount of participants are left. They would get an unfair increase due to the number of participants is too low. So basically, it is useless to make the round rated just for a few tens of people. Very bad suggestion.

Well, I falied to mention that this option will only be there if there is an error from problemsetter's side.

But in such cases, participants who are having Negative Delta (Rating change predictor) will make the round un-rated for themselves. So, participants who were having a Positive Delta previously will start getting Negative delta (as participants who were having negative delta are now unrated making him the last ranking participant). This process will keep continuing till it goes to the 1st ranker whose Delta will stay at ZERO. I don't think your solution will work if everyone play ideally. Please correct me if my math is wrong.
