Hi, Codeforces!

I'm writing to ask if there's any way Round #745 can be rescheduled in light of the conflict between the round and the ICPC World Finals Invitational Division. For those unaware, teams unable or unwilling to travel to Moscow to attend the 2020 ICPC World Finals in person are competing remotely on September 30th. The two competitions completely overlap: the WF Invitational Division begins 90 minutes before the Codeforces round starts and ends 90 minutes after the round ends.

For what it's worth, the clash affects a fairly sizable population of participants: a total of 57 teams are currently slated to compete in WF remotely, so this affects around 170 people. Moreover, as ICPC WF qualifiers, these people are particularly likely to benefit from access to Div. 1 rounds, which generally aren't all too common. Unfortunately, the series of dates surrounding the 30th are relatively packed with contests, but here are a few scheduling options that might make sense (i.e., as far as I'm aware no other contests are being held during the CF timeslot on these dates):

  • Move CF Round #745 to Sunday, September 26th or Monday, September 27th
  • Swap Rounds #744 and #745 (I think it's not a problem if a Div. 3 round clashes with WF, since very few WF participants are in Div. 3 anyway)
  • Move Round #745 to between Sunday and Wednesday of the following week (October 3rd — 6th)

I think moving Round #745 to October 3rd may make the most the sense, given that holding the round on a weekend may make it easier for those interested to participate. That said, I'm open to other solutions (or to keeping the round on the 30th if need be, but for obvious reasons I'd prefer a different date!).

If anyone has thoughts or suggestions, feel free to share them below.

Oh dear, I hope they don't delay World Finals again to avoid this conflict!

You should ask if the ICPC WF Invitational Division can be rescheduled to not conflict with CF rounds.

What's the point of an invitational contest anyway? You can just ignore it and participate #745. You get rated contest, and can earn some extra time to play League

How can we check which teams are participating remotely and which will be present onsite?

I heard a gossip somewhere that Invitational (the main one, not that mirror thing on 1 Oct) was supposed to be held on CF as well?

If so, I believe no round (even Div2/Div3) should be scheduled at the same time? Ask anyone who tried submitting anything to Gym at the start of any round. Or during the systests.

I didn’t think about this, but I can confirm that the Invitational division is taking place on CF. Maybe some judging machines have been set aside for WF, but if not, hosting the round simultaneously could become a bit of a mess.

+1 for moving 745 to the weekend, my current schedule of classes is such that I basically can't do any contest in the morning on weekdays, and I'm sure there are many other people in this situation as well (especially people with actual jobs that they can't skip). Unless the writers have some kind of conflict with the weekend, I don't see a reason that the round can't be held then.

I will also selfishly suggest the idea of moving the round to Wednesday, September 29 since my schedule allows me to participate on rounds on Wednesdays :P

It means on 30th September, CF will not have much traffic. low traffic = no server issue. (Kidding)

Out of 25k to 30k participants, 170 are going to WF. That's nothing to reduce the traffic.

I actually wrote a blog, asking Codeforces to post-pone or pre-pone their round due to clash with an ICPC round 3 months ago and instead ICPC postponed their round :) You never know ICPC :P
