Delinur's blog

By Delinur, 13 years ago, In English

Hi everybody, my name is Maria and I translate problems for Codeforces. I've been with you for quite a while doing my best to translate contest problems and I am open to whatever you have to tell me (if there is anything). I would really like to hear from you and look for the ways to make the statements more interesting to read and easier to understand!

Good luck with whatever you're up to,

Maria Belova

From Russian to English or English to Russian?

The most of contest authors are russian-speaking, so that I think that the first is correct.

I do Rus -> Engl, I've only translated Engl -> Rus once or twice on Codeforces

And of course, sometimes authors write their own English statements

And you check and correct them, do you?

Yes, whatever I consider obviously wrong like "a peace of cake". As all of you are programmers and I'm a linguist, I try to be very careful when correcting other people's texts.

I would like numbering the examples. (Input 1, Input 2... etc)
As when we have 7 inputs in a problem with the same titles, I could not concentrate if I have tested that one or not. Like in this: http://codeforces.com/problemset/problem/65/A

Thanks!

Ahmed I wish I could help you but sample tests are the same in both languages, so I am not responsible for them...

Hmm.. I see. So who is the writer of the problems then?

There is an auto formatting of a system for preparing problems. Writers cannot change some labels like "Input", "Output", "Sample test(s)", "Note". It may be changed only by developers of the system. You may request this feature from them :)

I know that but I thought any of them can listen to me here. :)
But I wonder if this only annoys me!

Thanks anyway, I will try to contact Mike.

I think that your idea is good. I was uncomfortable in samples of that problem, too. But the idea of numbering samples just didnt come into my head.

Haven't you tried competing in any programming contests? :)

Related Q: Are you (Maria) a programmer? How much :D?

Well, I used to be top of the class in IT at school but no, unfortunately I'm not a programmer. :) That's why I don't take part in contests. Pity... it could be great experience!
