Weekend Contests

Hello everyone,

Just a suggestion. Could more contests be scheduled on the weekend if possible? This would allow more people around the world to participate as many work or study from Mon-Fri on a regular basis. Unless there is a certain reason for why we shouldn't have contests on the weekend, it seems like a good idea to improve participation.

Thanks for your consideration, and I hope this message can reach the contest moderators.

Edit: Great points have been made in the comments section. While I do hope for more weekend contests, it is completely understandable that there has been a recent shortage in them. Thanks to all of the people who replied.

That's not true, that there are more participants in the contests held on weekends.

Actually, I have an opportunity to hold contests on almost any day of the week and at any possible time (as my sleep schedule is something really weird). However, the contest time depends on really many factors, and it ussually comes to 18:00 — 19:30 MSK. We also plan to hold some round at Sunday's morning in the nearest feature.

Actually weekends aren't the same around the globe :| for example, here our weekend is Friday and Saturday.

But for me it's not that much of a big deal, I mostly can always participate when the contest happens around 5pm — 10pm which is pretty much always the case here.

    Because of arbitrary borders drawn out by history, everything, including competitive programming, has to be complicated :P

There are 5-hour contests at weekends. Very often. Particularly, there will be NWERC tomorrow, NEERC next Sunday, Russian school team championship in two weeks, and Opencup round in three weeks. There would be less participants, especially when it's an onsite contest on Saturday on Sunday. Nobody writes rounds participating in onsite contest, as for most people onsite contests mean travelling to another city. And even it's an online contest, people usually get tired after 5 hours of problem solving. So it's natural that rounds are usually held at work days. And as people work at work days, the rounds are held in the evening.

    Good point. With the ACM season, people are less likely to be problemsetting on weekends in particular.
