I always sleep at 10 PM, except when there's an official contest next day I spend more than 3 hours trying to sleep while awake in bed. Tomorrow I have an official contest and I'm facing the same problem. To prevent this from happening I intentionally slept only 3 hours last night to be tired enough to sleep today, and I was very tired and sleepy all day because of that, and now it's almost 12 PM and I can't sleep. Does this usually happen to you? Do you have any suggestions on how to prevent it?

I pick any hard problem and think about it. In most cases, I fail to solve it and be sleepy. (I sometimes solve it, but it's good anyway)

For me, if I think about problems before sleep, I have a very bad sleep.

For me, it's the exact opposite. You may not believe me, but, I even realized the solution to some problems while sleeping!

Whenever I think about problems before sleep I wake up thinking very weird stuff, like an algorithm for going to the kitchen and how it should be very easy (and I be very serious about it). My dad told me that he once tried to wake me up so I shouted at him yelling "PLEASE STOP IT! YOU DON'T LET ANYONE THINK ABOUT ANYTHING, DO YOU?!" and I don't remember any of that. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just weird? :P

People with extreme stress level can't ejaculate, I guess if he tried to jack off and fails it will only worsen his condition.

If I cannot sleep, then I do not sleep. Sleep is for the weak anyway!

In the past I can't sleep well, I spent about 3 hours trying to sleep, too =)) Now I can sleep in 10 minutes =)) I think that drinking warm water and listening to slow music is good. Btw, if you know any slow music (not really slow but it isn't fast), you should try to listen it before go to bed. p/s: sometimes studying some boring subjects (such as Geography) can make you feel asleep =))

i had so much problem trying to sleep that i tried sleeping every alternate night. That was 1 week i will never get back in my life! i was tired all the time. Then it just hit me, just be strict with your waking up time, doesn't matter when you go to sleep just try to get up at the same time everyday and be really strict about it, your biological clock will set after a while.

I had issues with insomnia for years. I fixed this problem completely 9 months ago.

I spend in bed 8 hours 30 minutes regardless of sleep quality. I go to bed at 21:30, and wake up exactly at 06:00 everyday (including weekends) with rare exceptions.

After two months of such a strict sleep schedule my sleep quality improved a lot.

I took this idea from sleep restriction technique:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_restriction

Another things I do to feel very well almost everyday:

  • turn off the light one hour before I go to bed
  • don't drink coffee and any energy drinks regardless of how I feel (to break vicious circle)
  • don't eat after 18:30, don't drink water after 19:00
  • do running at least 3 times per week (but don't do it after 18:30)

I know it sounds very strict but after many years of suffering insomnia, I sleep very well everyday and have a lot of energy even at early morning!

I can't imagine how fortunate it is to sleep at 10 pm! High school OI trainees in my country sleep at 3 am after participating CF and wake up at 7 am next morning for school. For me, I suffer from insomnia because of playing the League and I typically sleep at 2 am.

You shouldn't be sleeping, you need to spend that time practicing. (or you could spend it talking to your girlfriend, oh wait you do CP so you don't have one of those, NVM)
