I have this confusion regarding rating in CodeForces, is it solely based upon what you do in those 2/3 hours of contests, or also on the problems you solve on here as practice? Also, whenever anyone tries to search about this (on google or anything), they always end up on a blog that is 10 years old, and rating calculations have changed since then, so where can I find an official announcement of the changes made? Thanks in Advance.

The Ratings solely depends on your performance in the rated contest. You first have to register yourself before the start of the contest. After registration, your submission will be counted towards your total rank, and based on that rank, you will be provided with the ratings for that specific round. If you don't make any submissions after registration the round will get unrated for you.

And No, there is no effect on ratings if you do practice problems or virtual contest.

Since u have been doing codeforces for about 8 months, I need an explanation on how can u still think that practice affects contest rating.

When I saw your graph as you did your first contest in August so I thought that you were active since then.

Have you read my answer properly? In the very last line, I wrote that there is no change in ratings if you do practice problems or virtual tournaments. Ratings are only changed when one take part in rated contest and do submissions.

Have you even tried googling? The second website I get is this which is an accurate description of the rating system right now. Scrolling down, I can find the change that was made since then, which was the way rating is calculated for new accounts.

In a brief summary of how rating is calculated, after a contest ends a seed is calculated for everyone using their rating compared to the rating of everyone else. This seed is basically your expected place in the contest. Afterwards, your seed is then compared to your rank and rating changes are then made.
