Hi Codeforces!

I have become a problem reviewer on CodeChef and an admin. We are in need of high-quality problem proposals.

We were not able to reply to quite a few of the submissions regarding their status (Accepted/Rejected), and some may have even gone unnoticed — because the queue of problems has accumulated over the years.

We are now resetting the problem proposals — and now it is estimated that you should receive initial feedback about your problem within 2 weeks of problem submission! If any of your problem proposals submitted before August 2020 have not been accepted or rejected yet, please re-submit them — we apologize for the inconvenience.

The reviewers and admins on CodeChef are now:

Further details are as follows:

  • Compensation: The payment details and required difficulties of problems can be found in detail here. Brief summary:

  • Submission Form: The form to fill for submitting ideas for any of the contests: Long/CookOff/LunchTime is here.

After submitting the individual problems through the form, you can send an email listing the problems you want in a single short contest. Send it to [email protected] for Lunchtimes and to [email protected] for Cook-Offs.

Generally how much time it takes to use the problem once accepted because i have two accepted problems 6 months ago?

It depends on the problem set requirements and the admins of the contest — but generally, an accepted problem is featured much faster than that.

Can you PM me the detail of your two accepted problems?

Yes, this is because the queue had accumulated over the years — the whole reason why we have reset the problem queue.

This will hopefully not be a problem anymore — we have new and more admins/reviewers including myself, and we will get back much faster now.

Who will decide the problem difficulty? Some super hard problems for me might be cakewalk for red coders.

The problem difficulties will be decided by admins.

A detailed description can be found here, where the estimated solves, etc, of the difficulties are described.

Hi, I sent my problems and CodeChef used some of them more than year ago:

  • MAXEXPR (August Challenge 2019)

  • PHCUL (November Challenge 2019)

  • ENGLISH (January Challenge 2020)

  • BREAK (March Challenge 2020)

But they always say that there are some troubles with sending money to me. Last email to me was on September 7th, 2020 from Arsalan Temrikar ([email protected]):

Hi Vlad,

We hope you are doing well.

We understand this is taking very long, but CodeChef is processing the wire payment for the first time from India. There is a lot of documentation that is to be done to process the wire payments.

We request you to bear with us kindly.

The current status is — We have shared the documents with the accounts team. Once the formalities are completed, they will process the payment.

Also, we would like you to know that we have released most of the PayPal payments in the past few weeks. We intend to clear all the payments at the earliest.

Then I asked one more time on October 19th, but I haven't got any answer.

Does anybody know what to do?

    Hi Vlad,

It's very bad that we haven't replied to your last email. Our apologies. We'll look into how it was missed. The current status is that we've had our transfer declined for 5 international users, and you are one among them. 3 among those 5 are from Ukraine, so it looks like there might be some random issue with transferring from India to Ukraine. We will look into this, and also email you for some more details.

Is there any threshold rating we should satisfy on Codechef for our proposal to be considered?

I really liked problems in the latest Codechef cook-offs/lunchtimes. Graphs/DP/precomputation/bitmasks... So a large variety of problem types. What I didn't like on other hand were example input/output cases. There were always (as far as I remember) only trivial ones that didn't really test solution idea. Also sometimes there was only 1 example case (even though the problem wasn't some trivial greedy/constructive problem, where more examples would show solution).

So my question is if there are any plans in changing (improving) this part of problem setting on codechef.

Yup, they need to improve samples and make explanations for them and some drawings in general. Also, subtasks in Lunchtimes are virtually non-existent (or at least poorly chosen).

Sure, as long as the samples don't give away a key idea of the solution — we will make them more non-trivial and add multiple samples/explanations :)

Has anything changed with the submission form? Did I just misspelled my email address or it doesn't send confirmation mail?

Sorry about that — there was a non-deterministic issue with a trigger. It should be fixed now and you should have received the confirmation email.

I think the same issue is occurring again. I have not received a confirmation mail for the proposed problem.

I submitted a google form on Codechef about 3 days ago, after that they quickly responded me with a gmail that the form had been received. Today i'm informed that the problem is temperarily approved by another gmail. I guess you may need to check your mail address? Or use gmail as they recommend if you didn't.
