Hello so I took todays contest and solved 0 problems, and so i went from around 570 to 490 rating, which is a pretty big drop considering im already at such a low rating. Well ive been scrolling past rating changes and other Newbies who have like 800-900 rating, which is MORE than me by a lot, who also solved 0 problems have only lost 8-3 rating. Can someone explain to me why I am loosing a ton of rating even when my rating is already much lower than others and I solve the same amount of problems as them (0). This screenshot shows that they did the same amount of problems as me, which is 0 Screen-Shot-2021-04-21-at-11-45-43-AM This screenshot shows that they only lost 8-3 rating

Screen-Shot-2021-04-21-at-11-45-46-AM This isnt a complaint so please dont downvote. I just want to know whats going on so I can improve. Thanks!

Your rating updates depends on your previous results. Here is article written by the Codeforces' creator and here is explained rating system This article is in Russian, but you can use translator. Or learn Russian.

Probably because you have submitted wrong solutions many times, wrong solutions also make you lose points in the contests.

I know the reason now, its because my rating boost ran out. Also they have more wrong submissions than me lol

Wrong submissions only affect the problems that you solve. They do not directly change your rating.

Yeah that's what happens. Don't be discouraged though, you'll get much better if you let those 6 run out and participate in a lot of contests. Wish I did that at the start but was a bit busy.

True, I think gaining and losing rating is quite confusing. We should have a fixed rating that is not affected by contests so there is no confusion involved!
