This contest will start in the same time with the next open cup round (Grand Prix of Peterhof).

And I think many Russians and non-Russians (like me) would like to participate in both contests.

Why not to make the Codeforces contest in Saturday?

Somewhere organizers mentioned that schedule will not be changed (except force-major situations) and I totally agree with their approach. They just select most suitable time (for them as for participants) and take into account lots of things.

What's wrong with changing the time of a contest?
I think TopCoder did it before because of Google Code Jam.
Codeforces is a Russian website, and Open Cup is also an important Russian competition.
So I don't see anything wrong in taking the Open Cup rounds in consideration, and change the Codeforces contest time.

There is huge difference between TopCoder and Codeforces: TopCoder is profitable organization and have people, whose work is to create and manage contests, while Codeforces build on volunteers and they have another full-time load work. So we should help them to develop product and have fun with it.

As I wrote before in comments the Codeforces schedule was published two months ago. At that time Open Cup schedule has not yet been published. We announced our schedule many times in emails and on the title page of Codeforces. Possibly Open Cup organizers should take into account the Codeforces schedule.

From the other hand our main event on 12.12.2010 is "School Personal Contest #3 (Winter Computer School 2010/11)", but "Codeforces Beta Round #45 (ACM-ICPC Rules)" is a side event. And I believe that "School Personal Contest #3 (Winter Computer School 2010/11)" is more focused on the school auditorium than the Open Cup event. Also Open Cup has special rules for alternative date of the competition.
