Hard problems have much more contribution to your performance on cf, if you could solve them, you would rank up better. However the hard problems require things learnt in easier ones as prerequisites, so you can learn them by either solving easier problems first, or reading editorials for hard ones and learning basics from them by repetition. The better one is probably gradually increasing difficulty from simpler ones as it will probably cause less confusion.

doing difficult questions surely helps you learn new topics and techniques but in case you feel demotivated that you're not able to solve 'em. try doing a lesser difficulty problem it increases implementation speed and try find new ways.

I have a question for you. Would you

a) Practice simple questions and then solve A in 5 minutes instead of 15-20
b) Practice hard questions and solve C/D in contest as well

If you practice simple problems, the main thing you will get is to solve those simple problems faster. That is important in a contest, but it is much more important to solve more problems.
