Deadline24 Final — (not so) Smallish write-up for Cauldron [Note: Somehow it turned out to be very lengthy] Not sure if you guys are interested in seeing this, but I figured out I need a brake from coding. And well, I wrote about the M24, so I guess I should write about D24 as well :) The Deadline24 finals were hosted last week. Our team won (by a small margin, but still) and I managed to get the highest score on my problem (The Power of Cauldron, or something like that). Unfortunately, the problems are not available on the website, so I cannot link to them. Overall our initial strategy was to split the problems by the amounts of pages — I take the longest one, then Marek Cygan, and the shortest one goes to Mojito1. The length of the statement usually correlates with the amount of code you have to write in order to get a decent solution. Plus, we quickly saw that Cauldron will requires a lot of visualization work, which kind of is my specialization in those 24h contests, apart from specializing in dozens of other areas ;) ...

Overview of Programming Contests After several months of inactivity I finally added something new to my blog: [http://psyho.gg/overview-of-programming-contests/](http://psyho.gg/overview-of-programming-contests/) Long time ago, I had a goal to write a small series of articles around competitive programming, so that most of the commonly asked questions (what's the point it, what people do there, how to practice, can I earn money on those, what sites should I use, etc.) could be simply answered by linking to the appropriate article. Unfortunately, after switching to being a full-time game designer I run out of time to do so. So I won't promise that I'll ever finish the series, but at least I'll try :) If you think that I have missed something very important, let me know (either here, or on my blog). Just keep in mind, that the article is already long and I don't want to write about some niche contests. Also a small remainder. You have less than one month to gather a team for [Deadline24](https://deadline24.pl/h...

AI Contest: write a bot and win 100TON (≈189$) A long time ago there was a competition called Deadline24, which I really enjoyed! Unfortunately, the last edition of it was in 2018. In that competition, you need to write a program, which connects to the server via TCP and plays some game. Usually, the game is turn-based, so you need to read the current state, make a move, wait for the next turn, and so on. I like this format, so as a hobby project, I decided to write a server for a game in the same format. The game itself is very simple. You are playing as a circle, which flies around the field, and need to collect as many other circles as possible. The only hard part is that you can't change your speed instantly, you can only change acceleration. ![ ](https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/2011126/238131256-1af3f18d-4173-496a-be71-9312d129cf57.png) The contest is already live! You can watch the current game in real-time: https://aicontest.dev/ and read more detailed rules of the game: https://github.com/bminaiev/aiconte...

How to get better? OK, this might be a bit strange. Many people ask others "How to become a better programmer?", "How to become red in two weeks?" or "Can somebody explain to me the solution to problem B?" under the editorial with a beautiful explanation to problem B. My question will be a bit different. It'll be about marathon problems, especially about Marathon Matches. I'm not so bad at it, I've been the best in my problem in Deadline24 eliminations a few times or so, but I'm much worse on long contests. Now, it looks almost impossible for me to win a Marathon round. I'm not sure how should I practice, there are many ways to practice normal CP, but marathons are different. You have to spend a lot of time on one problem to produce a good enough solution. Also, I don't know what am I missing — bad idea, implementation details, wrong temperatures (I'm still not sure if I anneal correctly) or if my code is simply too slow to check enough options? So, is there any list of tips from people who a...

List of contests with onsite finals Hi Codeforces. I am interested if there's an exhaustive list of programming contests that have onsite finals. While there's a huge number of online contests nowadays, participation in most of them doesn't give any perks except T-shirts and (sometimes) money for top finishers. While onsite contest, even if it only rewards top finishers with the money, is a good reward itself and promotion to the onsite contest is a great motivation. Of course, everybody is aware of such well-known contests with onsite finals as Topcoder Open, Facebook Hackercup, Google Code Jam. There're also some marathon contests such as Marathon24, Deadline24, Challenge24. But there're more contests than that — for example, Codechef Snackdown (started last year), VK Cup, CROC (only for Russian-speaking participants), Mindcoding (https://mindcoding.ro/). Therefore I'm wondering if there're some other contests that I'm not aware of. If there's no such list, let's create one! What do you think about this ...

Deadline24, Final Round It's the first time we're competing in the final of Deadline 24. We're very excited and videos from past contests look like a lot of fun. What advise would you give to fresh-mans? I would be pleased to hear from teams who already have some experience in this contest as well. * What pre-written code would you advise to have? * What tools did you use to visualise games (if any)? Did you run visualisations in parallel? * Was there a visualisation provided on a shared monitor where you could see the games in action? * Approximately how many rounds for each game were there during the contest? * After how much time since the start of the contest would teams have a minimal working solution? * What hardware did you bring with you and found useful (router/switch, extra monitors, etc)? * What additional material (language specs, books, language tools/libraries), if any, did you find useful? * What programming language(s) and tools did use to code problems, and why? * Did you use an...
