Goodbye A2 Online Judge :( I'm sadly announcing that [a2oj.com](https://a2oj.com/) ([A2 Online Judge](https://www.facebook.com/A2OnlineJudge/)) will be retiring by end of 2019, I'll shut it down at midnight on New Year's Eve. It was something I took care of for about 10 years. I'm really sorry, but I prefer not to explain my reasons, so please don't ask me why I'm doing this, it was hard enough for me to make this decision, and also please don't try to convince me to change my mind. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who used it, and please accept my sincere apologies for shutting it down. If you have something good to say about A2OJ (how you used it or how it helped you in any way), I'd love to read that, please send it to the following email (or in a comment here): bye@a2oj.com Also please feel free to take a copy of any data you can access, and if you need some data in a specific format, please send your request to the following email: bye@a2oj.com (if the data isn't public, make sure to send f...

Codeforces: summing up 2016 year <center> <img src="http://assets.codeforces.com/images/Happy-New-Year-HD-Wallpapers.jpg"/> </center> Somehow it turns out that for me, each coming the New Year means more and more. This is an excellent opportunity to take stock, to breathe fresh air and to go through a kind of catharsis. This is a rare opportunity to be with the family, dress up in Santa Claus and just have fun. Holidays give me a clear criterion that I do the right things. If during the holidays, I begin to think about it, to recall some deferred ideas, eager to implement something new. So I’m doing right things. My things. And now exactly the same as in several recent years: during New Year holidays I write code for Codeforces, trying new technology or simply I’m making minor changes in testlib. It is necessary to me: at this moment are no deadlines, do not press the obligation. Just now, at 3 am, I can not break away from being able to do something new. I would like to take a moment and realize that spun in ...

I hasten to wish the whole community (and including me) correct programs, sudden insights, beautiful ideas and interesting problems! I hope that you have met the new year at least as fun as I am. Have you had enough sleep after New Year's Eve? This year, the traditional post summarizing the past year, I sat down to write only on January 1, 2018. I hope that I will not have to sum up the whole year. This post is important to me, since it draws a line to all the work done by the Codeforces team and the entire community in 2017. Many thanks to the team: all of the achievements listed below are the result of joint efforts. We did an excellent job! The community must know its heroes. In 2017, [user:MikeMirzayanov,2018-01-02], [user:KAN,2018-01-02] (problem coordinator), ~gritukan,2018-01-02 (second problem coordinator), ~netman,2018-01-02 (ex-second problem coordinator), ~k...

Codeforces: Results of 2018 Hi Codeforces! February 2019 is already on the calendar, which means that I was late with the report for 2018. Better late than never! Let's remember last year. In 2018, [user:_kun_,2019-02-05], [user:300iq,2019-02-05] and [user:arsijo,2019-02-05] joined the team of coordinators. The work of the coordinators is headed (and is the coordinator of the coordinators) [user:KAN,2019-02-05]. I really hope that a more measured schedule of preparing rounds by a large team of coordinators will give a better insight into the contests. The main innovations in the platform are implemented by me and the developers [user:kuviman,2019-02-05], [user:fcspartakm,2019-02-05], [user:MaximShipko,2019-02-05]. Great work on the organization of events and prizes mailing was done by [user:gKseni,2019-02-05]. Special thanks to the writers of the problems and testers. It is your content that charges the community with life and unites all of us. Thank you for the problems! And now let's summarize...

ICPC Regionals — The Chennai flood and the Asia Director Background ---------- One of the regionals in India was scheduled to be held at [Hindustan University](http://icpc.hindustanuniv.ac.in/) at Chennai on December 17 &mdash; 18, 2015. Unfortunately Chennai was stuck by a [natural disaster](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_South_Indian_floods). The entire south India received heavy rainfall and hence there was a lot of flooding at many places including Chennai around that time. Atleast 347 people died in the state of Tamil Nadu (where Chennai is located). The damage due to the floods overall in south India is estimated to be atleast USD 3 Billion. It is the costliest flood in 2015. Ofcourse, due to this the Chennai regionals was postponed. I think everyone here will agree that this was an unexpected, unprecedent situation and hence it was entirely understandable that the regionals was postponed. The Blog post ------------- Dr. C J Hwang is the ICPC Asia director. In response to the above postponement he posted a blog article...

The Decline of College Contests From India Not many colleges from India conduct contests on Codeforces. From my knowledge, I can only think of IIIT Hyderabad and IIT BHU (If I'm missing any college then pardon me). Another thing which concerns me that why colleges like IIT Roorkee, IIT Indore and IIT Delhi do not host their contests on Codeforces, but that is not what this blog is about. I think I'm not the only one who feels that these colleges (who conduct contests on Codeforces) are downgrading their contests and I don't understand why is this happening!!! ICM Technex [2017](https://codeforces.com/contest/776), [2018](https://codeforces.com/contest/932) of IIT BHU was Div 1+2, but in [2019](https://www.codechef.com/ICMT2019/), it was conducted on Codechef and became unrated for some reason. This [year](http://codechef.com/ICM2020) too, the contest was conducted on Codechef (Though it went smoothly this time). Also Codecraft-[17](https://codeforces.com/contest/757),-[18](https://codeforces.com/contest/914) of IIIT ...

My sad story Teams advancing to 2016 WF Phuket in Asia have been announced recently. This announcement is undisputedly tantamount to a death sentence for me. I am the one who waiting anxiously, refresh Dr. Hwang's blog everyday. But it seems that for years, our training was meaningless. I think many of us dedicate our passion to programming contests because we see them transparent, fair and without any corruption. And I also believe that as contestants, what we should do is only focus on the practice. And I thought those political business should never come to bother me one day. But sadly, it is my team who is going to become one of the sacrifices of a succession of the dissension. What happened so far ------------------ The quarrel between the Asia director and the local community is [a long story](http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_b946da100101q21y.html) to tell. But it has never been as serious as it was in the past season. Now reflecting on this, I know on the surface everything is going ...

Lecture #3 — Exchange arguments (sorting with dp) Hi. I'm back from USA! I will do a new lecture tomorrow (Thursday) at 2pm CEST on my Youtube channel: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hFWrKa6yRM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hFWrKa6yRM). Watch me live (and ask questions), or just watch the video later. This will be part 1, and I will do part 2 in a few days (maybe Tuesday). **UPDATE** &mdash; part 2 is coming on Thursday, same time. Link: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXxu-Cr4b4c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXxu-Cr4b4c). There are no prerequisites this time. I recommend reading the materials below in advance, and trying to solve problems 1 and 5. If you are strong, just read problems and see if you can't solve something (maybe problem 8?). ### Technique "Exchange Arguments" If we're given $n$ items and we should choose some of them and choose their order, we should sort them with some strange/tricky comparator, and then do $O(N^2)$ dynamic programming. The dp should be $dp[pref][used]$ &mdash; best po...

Why so less "RED" coders in India? I really admire the names in the "—>Top Rated" section on the right side of the page. But to see that their is no Indian in those names hurts a little. I know India has a strong mathematical heritage and it should have been reflected in the particularly new paradigm of Computer Science also, but sadly it doesn't. So, what do you guys think are some reasons that Indians don't have any coders in not only Top 10 but also none in Top 100? [cut] I didn't particularly research on this topic but here are some reasons I can think of. - Most of the people who start CP is because of Jobs. I don't think there is anything wrong with it but this type of motivation won't take anyone far. Indians become Candidate Master or Master and stop CP completely after getting a job. - Due to almost 0 coding culture in high schools. Well a typical Indian starts coding in college(most people in 2nd year to be honest) and considering they have 3-4 years to do CP, I don't think many people can become a "RE...
Why so less "RED" coders in India?, hype in India. Not many knew about CP some years ago. Indians have drastically increased in CF, that their is no Indian in those names hurts a little. I know India has a strong mathematical heritage

ACM-ICPC World Finals 2017: News <img src="https://icpc.baylor.edu/cms/welcome-banner-2014/2017FinalsRollerv1.jpg" style="width:500px; float:right; margin: 0 1em 1em 1em;"/> Hello, Codeforces! The ACM-ICPC World Finals 2017 event is running now. Tomorrow will be the main contest. During these days the directorate of ACM-ICPC shared some news. * Let me remind you that this season (2016-2017) is last, when the general sponsor of the championship is IBM. For 20 years, IBM has supported ACM-ICPC, investing millions of dollars annually. Thank you, IBM! At the moment, the model is actively being worked out, when there will be not one general sponsor, but there will be a fund in which several companies will participate. At the opening ceremony the Sport Programming Foundation was mentioned. I believe this Foundation will be the main one for the future seasons of the championship. However, these are not yet close plans. It was announced that the next three years the general sponsor of ACM-ICPC will be JetB...
will be held in Beijing, and a year later — in Kochi (India). Such news., * The next Finals will be held in Beijing, and a year later — in Kochi (India).

Review of Scaler Academy and suggesting every other India coder friend of mine not to get in the trap I will not disclose who I am. Simple reason is we are normal middle class people who fear these people, they might screw us since they are powerful. I belong to the May batch, am from a mediocre college. We had webinars, "dare to dream" sessions and much before enrolling in the course, not even a single day they did mention that you are here to learn, it was all about **REFERRALS** and **REFERRALS**. I was not a very good coder(5* at CC and 1550+ at CF), but I was good enough to crack the questions that Indian companies asked in the interviews. The only problem was our college did not have tech giants visiting. I enrolled, and we were assured that the referrals will start from September. After a month of the course, they attached a condition that you need to have problem solving percentage > 70% to appear for referrals. I did not want to miss this golden opportunity and used to solve the problems on a weekly basis and always had my % > 80. I approached them in September, they sai...

CodeJam does not have filter by country feature — annoying, what to do? CodeJam is a great platform with interesting problems. But I think I'm not the only one who is annoyed because you can not filter all the participants from your country. That feature can help you to find your friends who are participating too, but you can find them if you know their username beforehand. I have found a work-around solution for that. - Copy this <spoiler summary="BLAHBLAH"> javascript:const country=prompt().toLowerCase(),button=document.querySelector(".ranking-table-pagination-chevron-right").parentElement.parentElement,getHash=()=>{return Array.from(document.getElementsByClassName("penalty-time")).reduce((e,t)=>e+=t.innerText,"")};let answer=[];const doCurPage=()=>{const e=Array.from(document.getElementsByTagName("img")).filter(e=>(e.src||"").toLowerCase().includes(country)).map(e=>e.parentElement.innerText);console.log(e),answer=[...new Set([...answer,...e])],console.clear(),console.log(answer)};let hash=getHash();const hashChanges=()=>new Promise(e=>{cons...

Practice strategy to get into ICPC regionals in India as only one person in team ? Hello CF community, I am currently around mid expert in my real codeforces account . Due to some reasons i will mostly participate alone in ICPC online India. What minimum color rank a person should have to get into ICPC regional as effectively single person in team. I know Anudeep [user:anudeep2011,2021-02-21] Nekkanti did it in his time. What practice strategy i should follow since i have 3 months in hand ? My college routine would allow me to give around 6 hrs per day for practicing. I can give more detail about myself if you want thanks

Regarding Re-Evaluation of Ranklist in ICPC India 2019 /20 online Preliminary Round on Codechef. The Ranklist of online preliminary round of ICPC conducted by CodeChef was modified by removing a question "SUMOR". Not only our team but many teams from all over India spent their time solving this question and many of them even got AC. But then suddenly they removed the question making the time we spent on that problem useless. That time would have been spent on some other problem which we could have solved. The removal of that problem clearly affected year long practice and time spent. This matter really needs some concern from CodeChef and higher authorities of ICPC India Regionals.

ICPC 2021 Online Round clashing with Codeforces Round 731. [For India] The [ICPC 2021 Online Round](https://www.amrita.edu/icpc21) hosted by Amrita University is going to be held on July 10th, 2021, which is the same date Codeforces is hosting Round 731. I guess no-one wants to miss either a Codeforces round or the preliminary ICPC round. Don't know the problem-setters yet, so tagging [user:MikeMirzayanov,2021-07-05]

Undetected cheating case from India in Codeforces Round #651 (Div. 2) [user:devil_within,2020-06-21] has surprisingly solved E problem of Codeforces Round #651 (Div. 2) using KOTLIN, although his primary language is C++ only. Just look at his submissions and see yourself that he has more than 240 submissions in C++ language and just 2 in KOTLIN. These is his KOTLIN Submission. [submission:84500251] Looking closely and comparing it with his C++ submissions one can easily see that there's a huge difference of coding style of this submission and his other submissions. I don't see a good enough reason to suddenly switch to a completely different language that too in middle of contest. The only logic I can make from this situation is that he most probably took help from some of his friends who code primarily in KOTLIN. Or he just asked them to code the solution and he copy pasted their solution in KOTLIN. [user:devil_within,2020-06-21] do you have any logical argument on why this has happened?

An awesome list for competitive programming! This is a project I started from late January 2016.
