Honestly I also wish to shorten the gap between rich and poor. Basically lower income disparity. Do you have any ideas? I get excited thinking of all the problems a bunch of like minded young people can solve. Having late night plannings and execution. Do you get excited by same?

We can do socialism. No wealth gap if everyone's poor.

Noble thoughts. If we're able to dedicate our lives for the well being of other sentient beings, instead of wanting more and more for our ownselves there wouldn't be so much suffering. We ravage the Earth for our own greed, and turn a blind eye to the problems of others, even worse develop feelings of hostility toward them. As a result there is an unjust distribution of resources, wars, climate crises, etc. Maybe this discussion is irrelevant for codeforces. If you wanna connect outside of cf we could discuss further.

This is something I have also thought about quite a time and I reached a conclusion. The wealth gap can be only minimised when lower end become the producers and the upper end become the consumers, which is difficult only the lifestyle and taste is very different of people living on extreme ends.

If there could be educational program, session, camp, or fellowship that could guide selected people to make products for the elite, this would be most effective

That has already happened to some extent. Poor people go to factories to make stuff for rich(er) people. In my opinion, the only way to truly reduce the wealth gap is to somehow make everyone have the same IQ. Past efforts to reduce the gap have failed cuz smart people always figure out how to get rich.

So what you are saying is that a naturally smart person born in Sudan which is in a state of war and famine is going to have the same chance of obtaining wealth as a person with all needs met and tons of educational and job opportunities. That is an absurd thing to say.

Well you have to ask yourself this: why is Sudan in such a state in the first place? It is in such a state because, on average, its inhabitants aren't very smart. Because Sudanese (again, on average) aren't very smart, the country of Sudan can't acquire wealth as well as other countries with smarter inhabitants. So the miserable state of Sudan kind of makes sense when you consider this.

My point is that, yes, the smart Sudanese will have a harder time getting wealthy when compared to the smart Chinese, for example, but this hardship is largely due to the low national IQ that plagues Sudan in the first place.

You have the consider the fact that IQ is simply not a measure of pure intellectual talent, and many different aspects of one's life contributes to it. It's more likely for people to score less on IQ tests due to poverty than for people with low IQ to end up poor.

The second part is not true. I've found that it is pointless to argue about the first part so Imma ignore it, sry.

Say there are two people: one born into a household of average socioeconomic status but this person is borderline retarded (IQ = 70, 2sd below the mean), and one born into just a super poor household (2sd below the mean in terms of socioeconomic status) but this guy has an IQ of 100 (average IQ).

Who do you think is more likely to end up in poverty as an adult?

Well the truth is that the first guy has around a 25% chance of ending up in poverty while the second guy has around a 10% chance.

                Image, SES = socioeconomic status

The point is that IQ is a much stronger predictor of the probability of being in poverty than SES. I do not want to argue about IQ and genetics since that tends to go nowhere, but modern scientific studies say that genetic differences account for over 50% of the variance in IQ. 50% is, in fact, a very conservative estimate.

You misunderstand. I'm not talking about whether SES predicts future financial status, I'm saying that the direction of causality goes the other way — the average SES of a large population predicts its average IQ. If the SES of many people increased, the average IQ of the population would be likely to go up as well.

In fact, this might be wrong too. Perhaps there's a third variable that influences both average IQ and SES.

Indeed, that is why I included that IQ is like 50%+ genetic. No amount of positive environmental factors can make a retard (someone with an IQ <70) an average person. Some of IQ is definitely environmental though, so a population's average intelligence can definitely go up with a better environment.

I believe that it is reasonable to say that IQ causes a whole bunch of the variance in SES.

                  Proof

Well you might perceive it as drastic but I'm not sure if the differences are that big in the grand scheme of things. To dogs or monkeys, all humans might seem so smart that the difference between 70 IQ and 130 IQ would be negligible.

The intellectual differences in a population are pretty much caused by nature. Almost all traits that are largely inherited form a Gaussian distribution in a population. Intelligence is no different. The intellectual differences between populations are probably caused by differing evolutionary paths. One such theory that attempts to explain why there are great disparities between some national IQs is the cold winters theory. It is kind of controversial and you will see why if you google it.

The correlation coefficient between intelligence and wealth is not r = 1 but I'm sure that the wealth gap would be nothing to worry about if everyone had the same IQ. Einstein was actually moderately rich btw.

i believe IQ is not something you are born with.it's acquired as you grow...

how is IQ measured ? by taking and logical and reasoning ability test ..but you learned and practiced this abilities your whole life in school and college..if you are born into sudan and went to a shitty school do you think you would still have the same reasoning and mathematical aptitude and all other things we take into consideration as "IQ"..IQ is a real thing but it is acquired not born with ...

`Poor people go to factories to make stuff for rich(er) people```

I would like to contradict here. People are not working inside to making products, they are working for the owner of the factory to make products. Here the producer is factory owner and not the workers. Also a big variable would be what product/volume factory is making. If it's making something regular and or like a FMCG product, then everyone will be making one. To make a product that the upper class consumes one needs to make high class product

I don't think I'll make anything out of CP apart from enjoyment by doing contests and solving problems. Other plans are to learn machine learning and become an AI Engineer. I'll also Django or maybe React in vacations and will try to work on a project which will be a codeforces tracker, recommending problems, virtual contests and stuff. I haven't thought of implementation and stuff right now but its just a plan.
