Disclaimer: fun.

A lot of people in competitive programming dream to be part of Google internship. I was one of them recently. Also your wishes can be like "to work in big tech company". But are all companies have good quality software? I'll compare it as usual user not hacker or minecraft player.
First semi-final is Google vs Microsoft. If I won't die until next month mb there will be also Meta vs Amazon (or smth like this).

Rules: I divide companies software into two tier: "God Tier" and "Mb useful / Don't use". Bad products are not taken into accounts. God Tier — 1 point, Mb useful — 0.5 points.

Let's deep in.

God Tier

Google Microsoft
Gmail VsCode
Drive Office
Chrome/Google Windows
Youtube
  1. Gmail. 0 alternatives. Thank God, I can use it as Microsoft accounts.
  2. Drive. 15 gb is quite enough to back-up some files. I haven't use Dropbox so can't compare it.
  3. Chrome/Google. Very decent. If you aren't nerd, you can use it without 127653 forums. + large marketplace.
  4. Youtube. I like to watch tmwilliamlin168 videos.
  1. VsCode. Hell yeah. Minimalistic, customizable, supports remote wsl. You can login without outlook.
  2. Office. 0 alternatives. Easy to use when you need to make presentation on World Literature. One minus — a lot of buttons. Also Word is the best IDE.
  3. Windows. Without Windows existence we wouldn't know Arch is the best OS. This is usable after deleting all programs and clearing taskbar to 2 buttons.

MbGodTier

Google Microsoft
Go C# and Basic

Damn. I'm done, so done. I'm tired to write it. Just wanted to say I hate Microsoft and one Telegram is better than all Microsoft ecosystem. But now see that Google isn't any better:))))))

Unhappy you after reading blue clown instead of listening python course.
POV Unhappy you after reading this circus

There will be no second part

I just think that big companies are not the best place to grow. However, I can be wrong. For example, Microsoft updates Windows almost every week and almost every time it's a bug fix.

I see a fellow Arch user, hopefully also with a WM instead of a DE.

Indeed, that would be a stupid thing to do, especially if one wanted a bloat-free system. .

You are missing a bunch of other God-tier products, especially B2B software.

Android, Ads, Maps, Cloud for Google. Microsoft also has gaming (such as Xbox), LinkedIn, GitHub, as well as Azure which is their most profitable service.

As for the Chrome, it's worth mentioning that Microsoft has recently launched new Edge that is based on Chromium which is quite competitive with Chrome.

You can take a look at this article for the products breakdown: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/how-big-tech-makes-their-billions-2022/

I don't particularly like edge because when you start it after reinstalling windows (to install chrome) it greets you with infinity number of offers. You need 1 minute to close them all and say I'm not interested in them. And this is not only with edge this happens with all microsoft software (not that they bought).

I wouldn't put Gmail as anything spectacular, but Android should be there. Google Translate is also far from perfect and there are better options for some combinations, but is a very useful tool nevertheless

Totally agree. Microsoft sucks. I was an intern in one of their teams. The senior SDEs didn't know anything. It was the most horrible experience I ever had. They did not follow any good principles and had made some shit which was the most useless thing I have ever seen. Who tf uses bing? Nor did the manager know anything. I really started doubting on how these big companies function. But I suppose there are only very few good teams doing significant work that drives company profits. Even the hiring is total nonsense and I see that they hire mediocre people.

PS: This is my fake account. I know this might get downvoted, but I just wanted to tell the reality about Microsoft. It is not something which you think it is. Things are totally team and luck dependent. These companies only talk about their culture and principles but they are all total bullshit. So just be aware of the reality before applying. I would only admire Microsoft for VScode, Github, and their research (MSR).

Also, I am a linux fan and totally agree with the author of this post. Windows sucks like shit. All popups and what not just coming over, absolutely no control of whats happening.
