BanAnA1000's blog

As the title suggests, I feel really depressed because of my bad performance in the recent div 3.

For some context, I just got +83 from the last edu round, bringing my rating to 1492. I was really hoping that the recent div 3 will bring me to 1500 for the first time because I never solved less than 4 problems in a div 3 and all I needed was a +8 delta.

And then I failed miserably. For some reason I was so incompetence and acted like a moron throughout the contest. My hands got clumsy, my brain slowed down and became stupid, my code was messy and I felt really frustrating. In the end I finished the contest with 2 problems solved, lost the chance to reach 1500 and probably my specialist rank (great, just when I thought that I was finally improving).

Is this kind of behavior (i.e become a massive idiot in the most important moments) normal? Should I convince myself that it's just a bad day? And what should I do now that I'm basically back to square one?

It happens a lot. I recently solved only one question in div2. I know that was a bad day for me. It's totally normal to perform very bad in some contests. you will gain +ve delta in upcoming contest.

Thats just normal. Look at me for example , ever since reaching specialist ive been doin really bad. But I know this is normal, it isnt my first time. I just keep going knowing that it will get better.

It's funny, we have the same rating before this div3, 1492 and we had solved the same number of problems in this div. I couldn't think clearly in this contest.

upsolve more problems and improve your skill, your rating will increase eventually, don't be too harsh on yourself and don't judge yourself on an internet number

Same here dude.I was expecting to reach specialist today but I totally fucked up the contest.I misunderstood D and implemented it badly, total brainfuck. The key is to not get too happy when a contest goes well nor get too upset when it does not go your way. The focus should be on improving problem solving skill and learning new stuff. And ofc contests are really fun. Rating will automatically come with practice and patience. Happy Solving:)

We focus on rating, we fall. We focus on what we love doing, we rise. The more we fall, the more space we have to rise.

It's alright, it happens to me and many other people I know too. You got an expert performance recently, so it's just a matter of time when you will get it again. As a wise person once said, it's much easier to have bad luck and underperform, than to perform better than you were supposed to.
