How often does someone get the same place in IOI two times in the row? (except winner like Benq)

in this case, it's not "two times in the row" anymore

I found 20 pairs of same contestant having the same rank in IOI'n and IOI'n+1 in IOI Stats database.

  • 6 of them happened on rank 1. So to answer your original question, it is recorded to happen 14 times (usual disclaimers about incompleteness of the data for non-medalists in earlier years).
  • In those 20 pairs, there is only one repeat contestant. He got the same rank in three consecutive IOIs (0 points for guessing who).
  • This year is actually quite heavy on repeats, as this year 5 contestants repeated their rank from IOI 2018.
