  • Everyone knows about the level of cheating occurring in the CodeChef Long Challenge due to which genuine programmers are losing interest in the Long challenge.:(

  • Since the margin of cheating is very little in short challenges we can see that the no of participants falls down to 8k(March Cookoff) from 30k (March Long challenge), I just have a random suggestion I don't know if it's possible or not that It should be made a rule that one will get the ratings of the long challenge of the month if and only if he will participate in any one of the short contests in that month. ;)

  • Many people won't like this blog, not because of bad opinion but either it's to their disadvantage or might be because I am a pupil xD. Anyways Thanks For Reading

I don't think you can attribute the difference of 30k vs 8k just to cheaters. That's probably a part of it, but obviously a long contest will have more participants because it is longer and you don't have to be available for a small window.

I'm not sure about your idea, especially considering the fact that Codechef only has 2 short contests per month. I sometimes participate in Codechef long because it kinda is the only one of its kind. But I see no reason to participate in the short contests because from my point of view, they are just random contests on a third-rate platform and there are plenty of alternatives.

I like the suggestion of conqueror_of_pajenegod more (although it's not clear whether that would actually help). It's important to combat cheating but it shouldn't disrupt honest users.

This issue will always be there be it any contest that runs for more than 12 hours. Even the Google Code Jam qualification round has a lot of cheating involved. So either completely remove long contests or make them unrated (which I would not prefer) or just make two separate IDs, one for short contests and one for long (if you want those ratings to be separate).

Yeah! its a great idea to separate the ratings of two contests.

By implementing this feature you will find a lot of 5 and 6 star coders drop to gray in their short contest profile.

For example these 2 famous cheaters of codechef rohit_79 and Kaustov_584. These idiots are 5 now 5 star by cheating and are bragging about their stars on linkedin.

scortier's codechef profile see this growth in such a short period of time.

It's high time codechef punishes these cheaters!
