I think most people type their code as they read because they can come up with solution while they read, which might take 30-ish seconds, and they have 30 more seconds to finish up and submit

My highest on monkeytype was 190wpm, but usually it's around 160-165. Writing code is a lot slower though, since there's more punctuation and you have to think harder about what you're typing. Probably the biggest speed boost for me was learning vim keybinds, since it makes editing code a lot faster.

My current PB is 153 WPM in English and 105 WPM in English 1K on MonkeyType. I reached that in about 18 months and 267 hours of typing on MonkeyType after switching to Colemak keyboard layout from QWERTY. Here is my Profile.

Same here, I switched to Colemak a couple years ago and gained an extra +50wpm from it. I think the biggest downside was forgetting qwerty and having trouble using other people's computers, but it was still worth it. As an experiment, I switched back to qwerty this year and caught up to my Colemak speed after a few months of practice. I think this was due to unlearning the bad muscle memory that I'd built up as a kid, and starting with good techniques from scratch.

I switched from Colemak because of comfort. My left hand hurt after typing on Monkeytype after about 20 minutes. But in my Colemak, I can type for an hour (even more) without issue. See Colemak Vs QWERTY layout. See how Colemak's layout is so symmetric while QWERTY is unstable. Because of that, finger effort is distributed unevenly.

You can make a .ahk file (AutoHotkey) of your layout and save it to any cloud storage. Just like I did, Github. That way, you can access that file from any computer.

Regarding typing speed, You can reach typing speed as high as you like with enough practice with any layout. The keyboard layout does not make much of a difference regarding speed. This statement has been proven by multiple high-speed typers who use different layouts.

Regarding muscle memory, You can learn any multiple layouts without interfering with your muscle memory of other layouts, just like you type in your mobile phone with QWERTY, and Colemak on your computer. Mythicalrocket, currently the #1 typist in the world, knows four keyboard layouts: QWERTY, Colemak, Canary, and "QWERTY with reverse keyboard". and he can type more than 200 WPM in all of them.

60-70 wpm on typingtest, but like coding is different since the word you type are limited, for, while, if, else, int, ll, string, char, n,m,q, cin, cout, void and your fingers get used to them like typing a whole `for (int i = 0 ; i < n ; i ++) takes almost a second for me, so when coding maybe it reaches to 70-80wpm
