On a more serious note, the rating system on Codeforces still has major issues. The top ratings continue to inflate heavily, and if anything it seems that volatility has only increased (subscriber gained almost 200 points for winning yesterday's contest when previous round-winners near the top ten would earn less than 100. Would tourist just lose 300+ points for another performance like his last? :P). Why was the system changed so significantly? Are these the results that we expected to see?

I think it is very interesting question because this is the unstable rating.

in 100 years, we will have rating % 1,000,000,007 .. at least in places like codechef :P

Do you really think this is inflation? You may try to make some emulations of rounds and compute ratings. Like... two years ago my stationary models (them may be wrong) told me that the 'inflation' is caused by slow convergence of rating calculations (as an iterative method).

This is as expected since the new system gives a huge premium for coming first. I think that we will have 50 legendary grandmasters within a year since the more points people in the top 10 has the more points they get for getting top 10.

I confirm that this is actually a thing. Currently I have rating 2695 and 28th overall position. 3,5 months ago I achieved rating 2708 which now gives 27th position. At that time I was 14th in overall standings and that position now requires rating 2824. That's kinda huge difference in just 3,5 months and it doesn't look like things are getting better after changing formulas... I took 7th place in 315th round and my rating went from 2611 to 2661. Today I got 6th place and my rating went from 2592 to 2695. Any explanations, anyone?
