I don't know any problems that explicitly test algebra/calculus. Rather, these come in handy when coming up with novel solutions (better than brute force). For example, when you want to find the maximum value of a convex function, you have to know some calculus to understand the shape of the function's graph. Thereafter, because of the shape of the graph, you can use ternary search to find the peak rather than running brute force search.
