Hello!

IOI 2018 is just around the corner and so I decided to propose the push-up challenge. The Bulgarian team has been doing it for the past couple of years and in a way it is very fun. If someone isn't familiar woth the rules, he can check the blog post of this challenge from 2015 (link).

So feel free to share your coefficients if you are going to join!

PS: Although I suggest you do the push-up challenge, if you are too lazy for it (and you can legally drink), you can do the drinking challenge instead (the rules are similar but with drinking C ml of 40% alcohol instead).

Pretty sure I'm gonna die, especially since I don't think that my score will change the number of push ups by a lot, soo I'm gonna set

C = 5

I expect to score about 300 points so I will go with C = 2, so I just have to do about 100 push ups per day.

Some people do push-ups right after every wrong submission.

Here you propose drinking after a contest for not-obtained score.

What about... combining the two ideas? :O

Been there, done that :) but slightly different rules are much better.

I like to say that there are two types of drinking games: mountain games and valley games.

Imagine that drinks are the gravity that is pulling you downwards. Mountain games are games where you drink when you lose. Once you start going down the hill, the drinks will only make you fall faster = lose even more. That's not fun because you'll just get someone very drunk. Valley games are games where you drink when you win. These are much better for parties. Whenever someone wins too much and tries to "climb out of the valley", the drinks will eventually bring them back down to everyone else's level.

As for coding and drinking, one possibility that works reasonably well is an individual ICPC-style contest with an extra rule "your final score is min(problems solved, beers finished)" :)

Regarding the optimal strategy for this contest, obligatory XKCD.

[ Drink responsibly and only if you are of a legal drinking age. Don't drink and derive. ]

As a delegation leader, I'm going to do ceil(100*X + 0.2*Y) push-ups, where:

X = the number of actual clarifications our contestants will ask due to bad translations

Y = the total number of points our contestants WILL get.

In Japan, you can legally drink at the age of 20. Onsiters, make sure to turn 20 before coming to Japan!

Oh, that is a strong reason to do some push ups. I will do 0.5 * (X + Y) push ups, where X and Y is first and last non-zero score respectively.

I accept challenge with C=10, where can I register to IOI?

I'll accept the challenge with C = 3, I'm hoping to not have to do more than 1000. We should organise group push-up sessions in the evenings or something

I can do C = 10 easily in the next acm-style contest I'm participating in.

Isn't push-up a hard thing? I don't think I can do more than 20 without a break, So I'll accept C=1.

I completely agree, people here are crazy. Unless someone wants to do push-ups 10 times a day during a trip, but I doubt that.

Yeah it's a hard thing, but you can do like 10 to 30 at a time depending on how you feel. The challenge is to do them in total, not at once. We did this a few times for other non-IOI contests and I remember finishing like 400-500 and a friend finishing around 700 in the time frame of the whole trip. You just do 10-15 then take a 3min break and repeat.

(not sure about the numbers, might be exaggarating, but it was lots)

Lots of people struggle to do even a couple at a time at first, but that's mainly because of lack of practice. It doesn't take too much work to be able to complete 10+ in one go, and from there it's just a case of getting a bit of rest between sets and you're ready to go again.

I'm in, but it's not like anyone can check if I did the push-ups, so I'll set my C to an arbitrary imaginary number. Imagine me doing however many push-ups you want.
