Codechef used to conduct two programming contests monthly, cook-off and lunch-time but this month neither of them were conducted so basically there was no contest for div 1 users, also seems liks cook-off has been discontinued since July 2022.

I find it really disappointing because both these contests had really nice and enjoyable problems. I am not sure of the reason but I do feel that they are more focused on the majority of the people who are in div 2/3/4 on Codechef.

I was expecting more contests for div 1 in future but what is happening is completely opposite :(

I understand it requires a lot of efforts by different people to make quality problems but they are putting efforts in organising a lot of starter contests which I don't know if is better to sacrifice for the only div 1 contests they used to have.

Is there someone from Codechef who knows why this has happened or if there going to be more div 1 contests in future?

UPD: It's good to know that CC Starters 62 today is rated for 5 and 6 stars users too :)

I have never admined a div1 round but I can say that it takes too much effort to conduct a div1 round. Especially with mainly 2 people consistently organizing div1 rounds twice a month with high-quality problems for many months was a remarkable effort. Although organizing div1 rounds at this frequency with mainly 2 people cannot go for too long and now it has been decided that div1 rounds will be held whenever they are ready. I hope the situation would improve in the near future and there will be more panelists responsible for div1 contests.

Apart from that starters are completely independent of div1 rounds and are mainly managed by me (and some more admins). So the effects on div1 rounds haven't affected div2 rounds; thus, they are being held at the previous frequency (i.e. 1 per week).

      Thanks for the clarification!
CodeChef_admin would you like to add something?

By the way, are you managing Starters 62? I have a doubt, in which Div will the 5, and 6-star people be for the contest? Div1 or Div2 or any other special provision for tomorrow's contests?

Finally, I will be able to give a Rated Contest:)
      All the best, Everyone!

You will be participating in div1. We will be manually removing 7* people currently from the rated part.

Based on my experience, div 1 on CodeChef seems to be roughly equivalent to only something like 1500-1600 rating on Codeforces. I think that making starter contests rated for 5* participants might be a good idea.

Participants with rating below 2100 are rated in standalone div 2 contests on Codeforces. Even though participants with rating 1900+ formally belong to div 1 and can participate in div 1 contests.

This is not true. I don't know how you got to this conclusion. Just the later problems of most codechef div. 2 contests can be upto 1800/1900 rating at least.

I have seen specialists and experts from Codeforces, who managed to advance to div 1 on CodeChef. Even your own rating on CodeChef peaked at 1925, which is not very far from div 1 there. And I have advanced to div 1 on CodeChef myself. If you disagree, then what would be the approximate Codeforces rating of a lower CodeChef 5-star in your opinion?

As for the later problems difficulty, what does it have to do with anything?
