_One_Last_Try's blog

Hey,

I know I am pupil and I am not the right person to write this kind of blog. But, I will still try. Is there a way we can make the CP popular. Don't get me wrong, it is already popular but I am talking about, it is not popular enough to attract sponsor or have a onsite competition held around it ( cough cough GCJ). This blog is not an attempt to highlight this harsh fact, but to open a discussion on how we can make it popular. It will definitely cannot match the popularity of 1000 dinosaur vs 1000 chicken stimulator streams (and the like). However, there exists other mind sports like chess which we can take inspiration from.

Any thoughts?

I don't know CP is not as popular as gaming or football, but I think because people prefer to watch colorful pictures than a -what they call- nerd doing math and writing random words they don't know what does it mean. Although CP is really competitive and enjoyable, if you're not able to understand what's happening you won't enjoy it. I think chess is popular because it has been around for centuries and it's mostly available for everyone -I mean everyone if they know the basic rules can play it, from 4years old to more than 80 years old, and all its requirements is a board with 20 pieces, not a computer with internet connection and an IDE to write a program with a programming language (most of my friends don't even know what is c++). So as CP is really cool, I don't think it will get that popular in less than 30 years.

I agree with your points. In fact, it is near impossible to look from the perspective of making CP popular by visual means. You just cannot. People are not buying it. The better perspective of making it popular may be by using it's application in solving a real world problem( Is it even possible?). The current hot topic is chat GPT. I am pretty sure there will be much lesser audience in finding the backend details of chatGPT but can easily reach out to general audience.
