BigBadBully's blog

By BigBadBully, history, 8 months ago, In English

I have tried absolutely everything. I learnt dp, djikstra, bfs, binary search, dsu, dfs, nCr, segment tree, fenwick tree, spare tables, stacks, floyd warshall, hashing, modular inverses, but to no avial. I can even solve super hard problems but im still stuck in newbie... how???? why???? i wake up everyday crying because i'm newbie and everytime i go to sleep dreaming of the same beautiful moss green colored name: BigBadBully. please help me i don't know what to do anymore

Start to focus on solving fast 1200-1300 rated constructive and greedy problem not with any data structure that is only required to reach pupil.

First of all, take a chill pill!

Dont worry much about it. If you're stuck on newbie, chances are your logic is not par, try doing some greedy problems of lower level, that will help your logic building.

Even if you keep doing div2 A,B regularly in contests, you will become pupil...

learn how to write code to get to 1200, learning algorithms at this stage is somewhat useless but it doesn't hurt anyway

Because you're blind and can't see the first 2 problems of the contest, right?

Wdym first 2 problems ofc i can see them i'm not blind, but tbh i think doing E and F is too much for new people

            Oh fine, then that's a strategical error, I thought you're a troll.

In extended ACM format contests, problem position does not matter at all so solving from F is somewhat wrong. All the div3 and div4 contests are extended ACM format contests.

Just solve Div-2(A, B) as early as possible. Do some virtual contest and practice it.

Maybe try not to focus on ratings at all and just keep practicing, sooner or later it will turn out okay. It could be that during contests you tend to get all anxious and frustrated instead maybe focus on being calm and patient. I know it's hard but I think u got this.

Well then so be it, u are a noob, there is nothing wrong with being one and yes I understand that must feel bad, I am also one. But at the core of it ask urself why is it that u actually code, is it to show urself and the world how pro u are or does coding bring some kind of joy to you. Yes u are a noob but u work hard and that's actually so great. This is my personal opinion and yeah u don't have to agree but best of luck and I hope u get the fruits of ur labour.

You're definitely a troll lol, I don't see why you'd need all of those algorithms when you're just starting out though, the first thing you should get down is math and logical patterns, then you should start learning more complex algorithms, as for data structures they are quite important so you should probably get used to many of those

Well that's just an obstacle you have to overcome, there's really nothing more to it, it's just practice and more practice, after around 50 — 100 problems you'll be well on your way to becoming pupil, I can see you're pretty close, so just keep participating in these upcoming contests and you'll do fine

Dude you don't know enough algorithms. You need to know atleast these stuff to reach pupil: CHT, FFT, Segment tree beats, HLD, Mo's algo. In addition it is advisable to have PhD in theoretical Cs if you want to remain at pupil for more than a year.

Based on this, I am pretty sure that you being an expert (1800+) must have been working in this field for quite a few decades now, along with a Turing award and, most importantly, a bare minimum of 3 Ballon d'Or.

It took him 1+ hour to solve such a simple problem, he basically can't solve problems a-f due to his speed limitations(and a skill issue of course)
