THISISPUSH_04's blog

By THISISPUSH_04, history, 3 years ago, In English

I just saw this (http://codeforces.com/blog/entry/52712) blog post which talks about dilemna of a top programmer about his career.

I was just curious probably like some others that where do top programmers have worked / interned or are currently working?

It would be great if you can share how you got selected, shortlisted or rejected (I hope not).

At the time of writing this post, I know about 2 guys (Petr working at google) and I_love_Tanya_Romanova who works at google.

I had a doubt that Errichto can work at any company of his choice, still he chooses to teach cp to group of three people at 90 dollars per hour. What are your views on this?

Passion defeats all purposes. I dont think a guy like Kamil can do fixed hours in some corporate.

Assuming that he teaches 4 hours per day at 90 dollars, 20 day per month, consistently -> that's 4*90*20*12 = 86k dollars per year, which is good income.

He loves what he does so there is no point for him to join any firm to make just money.

What? I don't teach groups (yet) and I have no idea where you took 90$/h from.

It's perfectly fine not to be a full time developer.

I'm currently in the middle of a job search and I'm finding there's a world of opportunities out there. There are lots of companies you've never considered and are doing interesting work with very talented people. I would suggest to anyone searching for a job to stay open minded and find a path that works for you, not blindly following what you think everyone else is doing.

Do you use any specific strategy to discover those cool companies? Also, how do you vet a "secretive" startup to see if it does have a good team?

Search according to the skills that you have on websites like Indeed and LinkedIn. If you're unsure if a company has a good team, just apply anyway. During the interview process you will get a better idea. You should think of questions to ask them that will give you the information you want.
