Let's hold an ARC Lockout Tournament. The idea is inspired by ecnerwala's Lockout tournaments and kenkoooo's ABC tournaments. This is not an official tournament, so there will be no prize; the winner gets the honor as the champion of the lockout tournament.

The rule is basically the same as ecnerwala's.

  • I use the actual points in the contest (like 300-400-500-600-700-800) to judge the winner.
  • Only the user with the earlier AC time gets the assigned score (tie-break by submission ID)
  • The time penalty doesn't matter.
  • In case of tie, the winner is the first one who reached that score (again the tie penalty doesn't matter).
  • In case both participants skip the round, the winner is the one with the higher rating at that time.

I don't want to mess up the results of rated participants with this format, so you need to be a red or above on AtCoder. If you want to participate, please reply this thread with your AtCoder handle by November 21st, 0:00, JST (that is 21 hours before the start of ARC 108). After that, the tournament bracket will be made in the 18452736 manner by ratings.

The first round is ARC 108, the second round is ARC 109, and so on.

UPD: I don't want to decrease writers because of this; if a match involves a writer or a tester, the result of the match is determined by the next ARC.

UPD: Thank you for the registration! Now the registration closed. Bracket You can add predictions now!

So, tomorrow is the match between Anadi and Golovanov399.

Not red but I'd love to use this as motivation to wake up early and maybe get red :(

If you are an orange, of course, you are welcomed to participate in ARCs in a standard way!

Once you reach red, ARCs will be unrated for you and the problems maybe be a bit too standard for you, and you have less motivation to participate in them. Lockout looks like a very nice way to solve this issue. You can still play a very strategic sport.

The point is that it would be during real ARC, right?

Actually, this format combats cheating very well, so maybe AtCoder could sponsor some prizes?

Oh, indeed it apparently will be parallel to the ARC. Then I (not really seriously) suggest streaming with tremendous delay :)

For finals and semifinals, I suggest making ARCs unrated and streaming live.

Yo, long time ago I made a handy script so people can see which problems are locked in real-time, which might be useful for this kind of competition, but I need to submit a request to AtCoder every x second to be able to update it and I believe I shouldn't DDOS your platform during normal contests. Can you provide any kind of API?

Petr

I would love to participate, but I also don't want to solve another contest this Saturday a few hours before the TopCoder Open finals. In case I don't get a bye for the first round, would it be possible to designate me (and other TCO finalists if they so desire) as a "writer or tester" for the purposes of lockout tournament?

Submit solutions as usual, and you can get the opponent's status in https://atcoder.jp/contests/arc108/vs?p1=Anadi&p2=Golovanov399.

It is allowed to look at opponent's submission list.

Please ask me if you need further clarifications.

In AtCoder, it's impossible to see other user's submission list during a contest.
All information you can see during a contest are standings and your submissions. (lockout page is based on standings data)

I'm not sure about seeing list of other user's submissions, never wanted to until now, but for sure we can see (-1) in standings which is almost as good. If you say that we are allowed to look at the standings does it mean that we are allowed to look at this (-1)?
Are we allowed to cooperate with opponent and write each other if we have got AC? It would be better to make notifications from ongoing match, but I don't know if it can be implemented.

Yes I meant (-1). You are allowed to do whatever usual contestants are allowed to do.

Are we allowed to cooperate with opponent and write each other if we have got AC?

For lockout participants this is allowed too.

There were some tensions about it in recent Lockout tournament so I'll ask: are we allowed to look at opponent's submission list?

No really, if this is what an ordinary ARC is like, I guess they are certainly not below my level, and I should actually do them instead of AGCs. Like was problem F really for 0-2799 guys, if my opponent (who is, I'd say, far from being stupid) didn't solve it in 50 mins?

That being said, thank you guys for a nice and hard contest! I was suffering, but I kinda liked it

This time we misjudged the difficulty level of the problems and the contest was harder than usual. I'm sorry if the underestimated scores ruined someone's strategy.

Anyway, thanks for your participation, and we're looking forward to seeing you at the next match.

I don't do all the ARC but I think half of the time F is solved by ~5 participants (to be fair, usually the number of high rated participants are low in ARC), so, F being very hard is pretty much normal thing for ARC. This time I wasn't able to solve D in 20 minutes which is less usual :)

Thanks for the round, I've enjoyed it a lot (even though I can't really solve problems...)

ARC 110 ends 30 minutes before the start of Hacker Cup finals. Would it be possible to move it to Sunday (which has CF Global Round 12, but at least for me it's not as important as Hacker Cup finals) and/or postpone the Facebook finalists' matches until ARC 111?

I'm sorry for the second request of the same kind from me.
